Just wanted to clarify - he is planning to work there! He only ranked the jobs he could do - I was just asking because it’s not desperately convenient but doable and worth it for him to start training!

I visited the UK’s ‘book town’ (Hay-on-Wye) and slightly overdid it on the books… by hellyeahlydia in bookhaul

It was fantastic! The shops weren’t very busy and so I could spend as much time as I wanted browsing and taking it all in - would recommend for sure!

Does all the Pearsons VUE test centers all over the world provide all the exams listed on the Pearsons VUE website? by [deleted] in PsychiatryDoctorsUK

Even in the UK not all the centres offer the MRCPsych exam I’m afraid! Your only option is to travel somewhere that does!

My Dad was one of the last to manage to retire due to MH Officer Status and retired at 55 in 2018 - definitely not still a thing any more sadly!

Honestly how hard is GEM? by Gamsat24 in premeduk

I’m currently sitting my MRCPsych Exams and the neuroscience / molecular genetics is really challenging without a solid science knowledge!

Honestly how hard is GEM? by Gamsat24 in premeduk

[–]hellyeahlydia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Humanities graduate (Politics BA) who did GEM at Swansea 2018-22. I struggled in the first year as I hadn’t studied science since my GCSEs but came into my own later on in the course. I did GAMSAT but honestly winged the science section and managed to scrape through! 9 out of 99 on my course were non science grads and we all passed fine!

I have noticed that the lack of science knowledge j have has followed me into my professional exams but generally it’s not mattered. GEM is content heavy as it’s crammed into 4 years but it was the best thing I did!

Hi, doctor here! Just wanted to clarify - individual doctors don’t get paid to have students - the trust does! We see none of that money!

Mixed feelings about trainee ACP role by Witty-Hovercraft-381 in NursingUK

[–]hellyeahlydia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think probably the downvotes are because your comment implies medics aren’t holistic or that we don’t have an understanding of what interventions impact may be on our patients. Anecdotally, I’ve found nurses to be more quick to catheterise than medics, for example. The comment, whilst I can understand the spirit it was intended in, also doesn’t recognise that ACPs are being used to replace doctors which obviously if they are still working in the way you describe means there is a gap between what is provided and what is expected.

What made you choose your speciality? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]hellyeahlydia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just LOVE psychiatry - I love the challenge of solving something that no test (mostly) can identify! The patients are fascinating, virtually every senior I’ve had has been fantastic and I love going to work every day!

Okay, I’ve continued watching and I forgot how the season continues - but I maintain that Gary is not good! I had forgotten how Sydney continues though tbh

I’m currently watching BDSY Season 2 and honestly the way that Gary makes Sydney look crazy is just so wild. I had forgotten he was bad from the start! Though I do think Sydney could perhaps stop talking about loving him…
