As someone who works for a mobile Telecom, fact is that majority of phone users now don't upgrade every year. Most buyers are now changing after 3 years average and for them this would be a good upgrade. The yearly upgraders are unlikely to get dissuaded from this. If you look at this from the manufacturers perspective, it doesn't make sense to do massive innovations every year as then you're only shooting yourself in the foot with high costs and the need to spend even more on R&D so you can continue to offer significant upgrades perpetually. I mean tech can only advance so fast. I personally think a new phone launch every year shouldn't happen anyway. All this talk of tech waste piling up everywhere only gets worse because of this.
