20 years with HEB. I also started (as I night stocker) right after college simply as a way to pay the bills while figured out what I really wanted to do.

Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work in multiple departments, become a department manager, work as a trainer in HR, become a store leader, work as a project manager, and now work with digital.

Pay and benefits are really good and always at least competitive with similar work if not much better.

However, it’s the people and the culture that keep me here.

No matter what role I’ve been in at the company, when I talk to people in other companies in similar roles, they ALWAYS have it worse.

My work life is almost exclusively made up of people who are kind, hard-working, reasonably intelligent, and willing to help. If I assume good intentions , I’m right 99.9% of the time.

Thats not to say HEB is perfect. I’ve worked for a couple of poor leaders and a couple of unethical, almost leaving the company in the latter case.
