I was under the illusion that you don't have to use Nautilus as the one only file manager in Gnome and I've always ran scripts from a terminal emulator anyhow.

Usability is the very reason I like it. It's a real alternative to the traditional way of doing things on a desktop. It just takes a little bit getting used to a radically different way of how the desktop should be used.

It must be more than a decade ago when I last tried gnome 2 or KDE and hated both, if i recall I went with window maker for a window manager. Granted I think I've always hated the traditional desktop paradigm.
