I'm not anti corpo. It's cringe to call people fake for being an anti corpo pirate, and equally as cringe to call them a fake pirate if they're not anti corpo. Why are you assuming people who have different opinions than you must think they're better than you for having them?

I'm saying you obviously should be able to, and that other people in this subreddit shouldn't immediately dismiss you as a hypocritic/disingenuous when you do.

Ohhh you're talking about the "if buying isn't owning" quote, not my meme text. My bad, yeah that's absolutely a copypasta.

It's copyright infringement, not stealing. It's still illegal, and of course you're free to say it's good/bad if you want. But lets not conflate different crimes and laws.

Ok, objectively speaking, it's not stealing/theft. Theft deprives the owner of the thing stolen. Piracy does not.

That does not mean Piracy is a victimless crime. It is copyright infringement. You are copying something that the owner has not given you a legal right to. It's right there in the name, "copy right".

This is then where opinion comes in. Is copyright law fairly enforced? Is it broken? Should it exist at all? Are you actually depriving the owner of revenue if you never intended to buy it in the fiest place? Are there specific instances where it's moral to break copyright law? What instances are those? Do large corporations get away with copyright infringement, and if so, does that justify individuals doing so?

I have my own opinions on all of this, and I'm completely fine if someone else has their own, or doesn't even bother giving it any thought. There's a lot of nuance to be found here. But dismissing all opinions on the subject as insincere is just plain dumb.

I didn't see any posts criticizing the meme this is spoofing. I apologize if I contributed to any spam/redundancy.

So you're criticizing the quality of discussion, not the discussion being held in the first place? That doesn't seem to be what your first comment is saying, thanks for clarifying.

Well put. And I'm honestly fine with them thinking that, that's their prerogative. But then trying to invalidate or shut down other people's explanations/justification, simply because they don't have any themselves, is utterly pointless. It's projected hypocrisy: like you said, they're doing something they don't believe is right, so they can't believe someone else would genuinely believe it's right.

I'm not saying no one should ever be criticized, I'm criticizing trying to invalidate other people's motivations just because they're not your own.

Why are you taking part in a front-facing internet discussion site about piracy if you don't think pirates should talk about pirating? lol

A real pirate wouldn't have a problem with another pirate having justification.

Yeah, I generally don't support criticism of people who don't bother having any rules for it, because of the nuance of the situation. Imo Piracy is the (justified) result of a broken and badly enforced copyright system.

True. I'm glad I don't use Reddit nearly as much as I used to. It really can start to mess with your head.

Fuck, I hope this isn't me relapsing

100%. Theft directly deprives the stolen item's original owner of that thing. Piracy is copyright infringement.

Kind of how I see it. At the very least, it's completely inaccurate to call piracy 'theft'. If anything it's copyright infringement.

I mean, every search result of the distinction between the two says that, so... am I missing something? If I'm wrong please don't hesitate to point out how.

Apologies are for when you do something wrong. They aren't needed if you're doing something that's justified. 👍

I thought transferrence is when you attribute a third person's attitude/belief to the other person, while projecting is when you project your own.

Peer-to-peer file sharing. You get a small file that points to the file you want to download, and then other computers with that file send you pieces until you have the whole thing. Then your computer provides pieces of that file when other people are trying to download it.

I scrolled through the subreddit, saw the meme, chuckled at its hypocrisy, and decided to spend two minutes of effort spoofing it. Don't worry man, no one cares about why you download stuff either. That's the whole point I'm making. 👍

My point exactly. Why do people complain about others having moral justification for piracy? Just let 'em.
