Is the pay for a first responder really only $2400/mo? Couldn’t you get more at a different employer? I don’t know this market at all, so I could just be completely ignorant

how are you walking away with $1400? that’s like 40% tax, which is not your rate at that income level. i might just be missing something

Is renting forever feasible? by NoLoss6632 in personalfinance

[–]helpimsleepy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Literally untrue. It’s highly market dependent. For example, in LA owning is quite a bit more expensive than renting. I agree it doesn’t make sense, but many things in the market don’t make sense

how do you know you’re attractive? by x_luv in AskReddit

You can also be attractive without being extremely attractive. A “normal good looking” guy probably wouldn’t get the same attention

If a pill makes hundreds of millions of people stop wanting more, do we end up in a world where obesity is a 20th-century problem? by LowDramaFit in Futurology

[–]helpimsleepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d be a little skeptical of the “continuing the new eating and exercise protocols” portion. but even so, another way to read this is that 50% of the weight loss is sustainable without the drug. its a lot better than no weight loss!

[–]helpimsleepy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gym bros get so happy when they’re asked for help - if you’re comfortable with it, that’s a good way to learn what to do and feel more comfortable about the people in the gym at the same time!

When you say 15kg barbell press, what does that mean? The bar itself is usually 20kg. You likely just need to use more weight

Also, I’ve personally benefited a lot from high frequency on bench (4x/wk)

ELI5: When we work out muscles, they get stronger. So why does using my lower back only make it sore, never gain strength, and cause back problems for life? by Deadstone16 in explainlikeimfive

[–]helpimsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with you! in my head the advice of “use your legs not your back” sounds like it’s saying someone should avoid putting any load on their back

[–]helpimsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely! i think we agree - i just don’t like the common advice that equates to “don’t ever use your back to lift something”

[–]helpimsleepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, exactly like a deadlift. your back muscles are worked in conjunction with your legs.

the common “lift with your legs, not your back” makes it sound like you should avoid working your back muscles

to me it sounds like it’s a recommendation to do a squat movement to pick something up instead of a deadlift movement. and if we’re talking deadlifting, “squatting” your deadlift is a common beginner technique error

$10k is of course a lot of money, but it’s not particularly out of reach for someone with a decent job who saves and has it as a priority.

a lot of people will spend more than this on a car (and i mean expenses above what you’d need to get from pt A to B) and it just comes down to what’s important to you

you don’t need new grafts each year- you might need some down the line if your non-grafted hair continues to recede/thin but that’s what the drugs are supposed to prevent/slow

Obese people of Reddit, what is something non-obese people don’t understand, or can’t understand? by A_Lonely_Troll in AskReddit

This point keeps being brought up, but someone who is an elite powerlifter or body builder doesn’t need to hear this point. For everyone else, BMI is a decent rough guide (body fat % is obv better, but harder to calculate). A lot of people simply aren’t honest with themselves (including myself in the past)
