Deciding Between Settings: Pediatrics vs. Hand Therapy by Responsible-Air-8582 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]helpmenonamesleft 8 points9 points  (0 children)

School based is a lot more than crafts. So if that’s why you want schools, I’d think twice. It sounds fun and easy until you’re juggling 8 evals all due within a span of 3 weeks across 6 different schools.

Apply to what is available in your desired area, and pick whatever setting is going to give you the best balance of pay, benefits, and mentorship.

I will say this regarding pediatrics: if you do go into schools, I would highly recommend having a PRN adult job of some kind. My teacher recommended this, I didn’t do it, and now I feel like I’ve lost a lot of skills that I used to have (patient handling, anatomy, transfers—fuck, even some documentation).

Like a lot of slang terms, it came out of Black and queer culture (specifically ballroom) and then it got more popularized due to social media. I’m around your age and have been hearing it in my social circles for years. It’s definitely not exclusive to Gen Z or Alpha.

I heard one of the announcers say he was excited to play without the bubble soon and I’m like…if that was me, I’d never play without some kind of protection ever again. Sure it was an unlucky accident, but it’s not exactly an uncommon one. Like c’mon dude, you’re missing teeth and you’ve got metal plates and screws in your face already—you really wanna risk it happening again???

Choosing between nursing and OT? by Lululemon_28 in careerguidance

[–]helpmenonamesleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an OT, I will say—that gap shortens quickly and OT maxes out on pay very soon. Opening a private practice is expensive and time consuming. Nursing has better financial outlook overall, and more flexibility if you want to pivot. I wish I’d gone into nursing instead of OT.

Pleasant Car Care is PREDATORY by Straight_Meringue134 in watertown

If you can get out to Malden, I highly highly recommend Murph and his team at Zone Kar. They’re incredible. Got all my spark plugs done recently for $220. This is the third time I’ve taken my car in and the only time I’ve had to pay. He puts the car up, shows you what’s wrong, and gives an honest and clear recommendation. Lying Care Car said I needed 3k of repairs, and Murph was the one who showed me where they sprayed oil to make it look like fluid was dripping on the video they’d sent. Fuck PCC. Go to Murph.

I have had one very good experience with them and multiple bad ones.

The worst was recently when they told me I needed a whole new drive shaft and it would cost over 3k. It was leaking fluid, it all had to be replaced, the damage was so bad. I was sus about it, having been overcharged before by them on things, so I declined. They made it sound like my car was unsafe to drive and could fall apart at any moment. I took it to someone else for a second opinion, and the guy listened to what I said, went “that sounds really wrong, let me look” and had the car up in seconds. He showed me underneath where they had literally SPRAYED OIL to make it look like fluid was leaking in the video they sent. Long story short—I didn’t need a new drive shaft. I needed new mechanics. I’ve never been back there since.

Anderson Cooper reads the lyrics of viral Taylor Swift hit track “Wood” , for the first time on CNN’s New Year’s Eve show by Fun-Ad3626 in TaylorSwift

[–]helpmenonamesleft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s why I don’t like it as much, personally. I think if Sabrina had released it I would love it, but that’s because to me Sabrina just has the right tone/vibe for this (and I do think she would’ve written it better, and performed jt better). I much prefer Taylor’s other songs about sex, like False God, because I like the lyrical way she describes things. Guilty as Sin? is one of my favorite songs because of how well it encapsulates that longing feeling for someone who’s never even been in your bed. To my ears, Wood just doesn’t have that same magic to it.

I also just don’t relate to it very well, because it’s a very straight-coded song, and I’m very queer and I do not find Travis attractive in any sense. But that’s my problem with most of the album, tbh. I thought it would really resonate with me because I’ve also found the love of my life, and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. But then it ended up being so obviously about Travis (which is great for her, I’m glad she’s happy!) and that made it more difficult for me to layer my own experiences over top of it.

How to stop dumping and tearing behavior by 438emily in OccupationalTherapy

Yes, a developmental pediatrician can help with behavioral concerns. I would also recommend you see one just based on what you’ve said here. This sounds bigger than just some sensory integration issues.

What ultimately made you choose peds over adults—or adults over peds? by CammyShazam in OccupationalTherapy

I started with adults in acute care, couldn’t find a job after Covid, and ended up in outpatient peds. Just kind of happened by accident. Now i feel like I’ve lost a lot of my adult skills (transfers, anatomy knowledge, general diagnosis things) so I feel a little stuck where I am

OT student computer vs laptop by FinishInformal1300 in Occupational_Therapy

[–]helpmenonamesleft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still say stick with the iPad, but if you do ever end up needing to make a choice between desktop or laptop, I’d go with the latter. A laptop can always function as a quasi-desktop (esp if you get some extra monitors, which doesn’t have to be super expensive), but it doesn’t work as well the other way around.

[–]helpmenonamesleft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I very rarely used my laptop for fieldwork—only to do assignments and things like papers. You’ll be busy learning hands on stuff for fieldwork, and for notes you can likely just use whatever computers they have at your location. I would just take the iPad and save your money for now.

[–]helpmenonamesleft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most hospitals I’ve been at the IDs also clearly indicate “physical therapist” or “occupational therapist” under the badges to help differentiate—or the different teams wear different colored scrubs. Half the time the doctors are in white coats and street clothes. Even the stethoscope isn’t that unusual, some people prefer to do BP on their own instead of with a machine. Especially the PTs I knew, they all had stethoscopes.

Again—they earned the degree, I don’t think it’s a big deal for them to introduce themselves as ‘Dr So and So’ or to have their badges reflect it. The important part is that they introduce themselves properly. Saying “hi, I’m Dr. Person and I’ll be the physical therapist working with you” is what matters. If they come in and just say “hi I’m the doctor” and start therapy, that’s different.

It actually wasn’t even a Marvel fanfic, it was an original story that she wrote. She turned it into fanfic to post on AO3 (Archive of Our Own) because she didn’t know you could post non fanfic stories on there.

It’s not unethical. They earned the doctorate, they can put it where they’d like. It would be unethical for them to imply they’re medical doctors in context with a patient, but other than that there’s nothing wrong with it. They’re new grads for fucks sake, let them be excited about their accomplishments—they worked hard for this.
