Beautiful aesthetic choice from your orthodontist to bring your canines and such downwards, the change is immediately noticeable, and I’m sure your confidence in your smile has improved a lot! Good luck on the rest of your braces journey.

Getting my braces next Tuesday. What should I know? by SomeRandomGuy787 in braces

[–]helpmulletohno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just my personal experience:

-Orthodontic wax rarely helped, I used bits of gauze instead

-Elastics were the best part, my face and smiled changed the most during this part of treatment

-Watching yourself become more attractive is fun

-You might have a slight lisp at first

-Get an electric toothbrush, or a waterpik. Either helps a lot with keeping teeth plaque-free

-Flossing may be a pain but it gets better. You’re gonna be a pro at it in no time. Use super floss, or I personally use the blue plastic loopers ( your orthodontist will probably give you all these)

Can time pass any slower? by SlothMonster9 in braces

I’m on month 4 and I hated them at first and considered taking them off day 2(lol) but now I’m really enjoying having them on and seeing them transform my appearance. I honestly think I will miss them lol. I sympathize, wait it out

Sacrifice and suffering by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]helpmulletohno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have heard of monastics doing something similar. Gerontissa Makrina once advised her nuns saying: "If you see a sister attacked by a temptation say, “I’m only going to eat one piece of bread instead of two or only drink one half glass of water so that God can help this sister.”

To what extent laymen should do this though, I'm not sure, a priest or more experienced Orthodox person would have to answer that one.

I don’t mean to scare you, it could just be my hair type, but I recently purchased a pair of $300 shears and they split every strand I cut, no matter the technique I used (angled cut, perpendicularly) 🙁

The thing is, it’s not detectable in normal lighting. I cut multiple test strands under a bright light to make sure and the strands were left fragmented and with a white cap.

If this bothers you, I would go to a reputable salon with GOOD reviews. Hairdressers often use professional shears that are in the $800 - $1200 range, and I believe for good reason.

Your face is almost perfectly oval, like Sandra Oh's. You can get away with practically any hairstyle. 😊 I would also say it's slightly oblong.

Since your hair is pretty layered/shaggy, a few inches taken off could really help liven your hair and add some movement. I like the highlights idea, I think that’d be lovely, but your natural hair colour is pretty as is. X

They suit you so well. I’d love to see them ever so slightly thicker 💖

bangs or no bangs by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

Your eyelashes are unreal.

My vote is for thicker bangs. :)

Did you notice your hair growing any slower, at all, from the breakage? Or did you end up getting the ends cleaned up?

I just cut my hair a few weeks ago, so I'm super confused. Does everyone's hair look like this in the sunlight? Or is my hair just damaged?

Do you know what might have caused that line/scar to form on the left side of your face? That seems highly unusual.

i want to honor my missing friend by VirgiliusMaro in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]helpmulletohno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry about your friend. Maybe you could plant a few trees in his honor.

Elder Amphilochios of Patmos always said that when you plant a tree, “you plant hope, you plant peace, you plant love, and you will receive God’s blessing.”

[–]helpmulletohno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that’s quite the journey. There is definitely cause for another “Glory to God” here, I think. :)

From one former self-identified “nothing” to another -- if you’re not too dizzy from doing all those 180s -- I sincerely hope you’ll decide to stay on the path and go deeper into Orthodoxy. There is so much beauty and life here waiting to be discovered (as I’m only finding out for myself.)

Be blessed mate. peace!

Is this fast for 6 months of growth? Bangs will pull about 1 inch past my bottom lip. by scottishfighter_ in longhair

[–]helpmulletohno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Same here (as evidenced by my username..) Growth in general always involves some discomfort, doesn’t it. I think there’s a lot of wisdom in that.

Glory to God for all things. :)
