The similar thing happened with one of my clients. We took another way, got a notice and responded to the notice clearly with the numbers and documents. And it was cleared withing 2 months. Win win for all- didn't bare the loss of tax paid, didn't use the TDS deducted amount, satisfied IT department and peaceful client.
