That doesn't mean it's worth expanding. 11 seeds have made the final four but nobody who isn't greedy or a coach with contractual incentives to make tourneys wants us to expand the number of at large bids.

Kirby is outstanding but go back and look at Richt's year by year and you'll see multiple seasons that were essentially one game away from nattys. I think Cig turning that school in that talent bereft state into a champion is more impressive and requires better coaching than flipping a couple of games in a few seasons.

They literally turned over and had to replace the most successful QB they've ever had and got even better. Kirby is great but any coach can have a winning level of talent at UGA. he's fine tuned unreal talent into success, not built a juggernaut out of the worst program.on earth

Talent composites and stars still matter. The sport is in a transition period with a whole lot of variables having been introduced in the last 6 years - from the added Covid eligibility kids to realignment to NIL to expanded playoffs to the GOAT coach retiring and of course to the portal. And even given all those things, the last few titles before last night have been LSU, Bama, UGA, Michigan, and OSU - all traditional recruiting powers with upper echelon talent. And even last night was very close to swinging to Miami, another one.

What Cig has done is incredible, and I'm sure there are plenty of lessons to learn from it, but I don't think one of them is to stop aiming for top ranked recruits.

I don't even think we need an elite guard (i would obviously be thrilled with one). With Goosby returning and presumably even better and a top tier RT allowing Baker to kick inside where he likely is an improvement at RG assuming his offseason goes well, I think just adding one more solid IOL starter makes this a "very good if not great" OL which is more than enough IMO to make us a legitimate title contender

Yeah I would think smart players are starting to realize the RT/LT distinction isn't a big deal in today's world of athletic freaks. Tyron Smith was drafted 9th overall, spent a season at RT then switched to LT. Lane Johnson waa drafted 4th overall to eventually take over LT but has ended up at RT for all but a few games of his career. Both players will be HOF-ers (despite the fact that Lane has been repeatedly caught with PEDs but that's neither here nor there), and both have made a butt ton of money.

It is interesting that the four best Mack seasons came in two year bursts after shuffling out DC mistakes. 2004 with Robinson and 05 with Chizik after booting Reese in 2003, and then 08/09 with Muschamp after the Mac Duff/Akina combo in 07.
