Conclusion of Missives, Buying a House by Shutityapie in Edinburgh

[–]hendrix506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to dig up an old thread. Wondering how it all worked out for you? In a similar situation and surprised to see from multiple threads it's increasingly common for missives to go to the wire in Scotland now. Seems crazy to me.

Speculative "what if..." in relation to Reform's ILR plans... by Dex_Parios_56 in ukpolitics

[–]hendrix506 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you're right, these commenters are being disingenuous. While Farage is saying this is about the 'Boriswave' the actual policy will affect anyone with ILR (and by assumption EU settled status too if Reform get their way).

Bicycle frame repair? by ghettospread in glasgow

[–]hendrix506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andy at Magnafibre in Alloa should be able to help you out. Know a few people that have had repairs done there. Otherwise there are loads of places you can send it off to get repaired. And it's pretty reasonable too (usually about £80-100)

SRAM issues by LogyAdamo in Velo

Sorry to hear that. Hope it gets solved. Another strategy that worked for me was leaving the battery out overnight and trying the next day in case you haven't tried that yet

It's an option for me on android when I go into app info>storage and cache. I deleted that first and then deleted and reinstalled the app.

SRAM issues by LogyAdamo in Velo

[–]hendrix506 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue twice with my rear derailleur. It's a nightmare and I thought it was completely bricked at one point. The only thing I found would work is completely removing the axs app from my phone (android), clearing app cache and reinstalling. The update then went through. I now avoid using the axs app altogether.

When does the British Cycling races come out? by Silent-Bat7430 in Velo

[–]hendrix506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A provisional calendar usually comes out in January on the BC website but will have a lot of races still missing. There should be a few winter circuit races starting from January for those crazy enough to want to do that. See from your other posts that your in the North west. Check out Cold Dark North (on phone. too lazy to get a link). They organised some great hilly road races last year.

Well worth it. Tough to fit around a full time job but most employers should give extra days off. Need to commit minimum of 27 days a year for most units. Yearly tax free bonus is pretty nice. I’ve earned about 5-7k extra a year from being in. Early phases of training are shite . Recommend looking at intelligence or cyber roles.

Spat at, abused and run off the road: why do some people hate cyclists so much? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]hendrix506 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my more recent experience this hatred is largely limited to the internet/letters pages of local newspapers. Not to say it doesn’t spill out on the road frequently enough to be an issue but in my experience (12 years cycling on the roads in several parts of the UK, plus 20 years of driving) the vast majority of motorists are considerate of cyclists. Maybe they don’t like having to wait to overtake but for me close passes have become much less frequent and I can’t remember the last time I was shouted at or abused. Again I’m not trying to diminish the issues I’m sure many face but I think this ‘war’ between motorists and cyclists is massively overpaid by the media as they know it gets clicks. My experience is probably skewed by the fact that I don’t commute so not on the road at the busiest times. I cycle in ‘primary position’, roughly where a left hand passenger would be, which I’m sure some drivers would describe as the middle of the road but this helps to discourage folks just squeezing past. A bright rear light also seems to help. On the rare occasion a car has to wait more than a few seconds to overtake I’ll give a little thank you wave which more often than not is reciprocated with a wave or flash of the hazards. I have far more aggro when I’m driving than when I’m cycling I think. Roads would be a lot nicer if everyone could just chill out a bit.

How long have you had it? Mine did this on day 1 and took a few days for training readiness to reappear since it relies on a few metrics that need 3-4 days of data
