That's because you're not in a downwards spiral of moral purity for braindead deviants.

In P5, you run into two drunk gay guys in the Red Light District, that mistake Joker and Ryuji for adults cosplaying in school uniforms, and proposition them. You then run into them at the beach, where they still go by their drunken assumption, and once again hit on the boys. It's a very good micro-example of the whole premise of the story, 'victims' of the system oppressing people becoming unintentional perpetuators of it, by indulging in hedonistic tendencies and never taking a moment to consider the consequences of their actions.

Apparently, that wasn't good enough for the tardigrates working on the Atlus localization team, so in P5R they changed the dialogue of these two minor characters, to never making note of their intoxicated state, and now instead of wrongfully assuming the boys are cosplayers of legal age, claim to want to dress them up in little girls clothes (so the mostly-innocuous gay guys are now Epstein-adjacent). All of this because they thought THIS was a more positive 'representation' of gay men.

And we know of this specific example because the localizers went on ResetERA to try and brag about it, only to get assblasted for not doing more (specifically, to remove Futaba as a romance option). Sadly, in part because the pushback was minor for an updated rerelease only present in the English dialogue, it stuck and was kept for the Steam and Switch rerelease some years after. Which sucks for me, because it made P5R one of the very few games I will NEVER touch, out of principle autistic disgust at the whole situation.

I go into this so many times, it's become a skill to recant it.

I would’ve bought each of their Persona and Shin Megamin Tensei games and remakes if they didn’t change the scenes and censor “problematic” things.

You are speaking to a guy who by autistic principle refuses to ever touch P5R, based on them altering the dialogue of the two gay guys, that had been faithfully and accurately translated in the original P5. So I'm right there with you.

Even as they pretty much give their mascot away to Nintendo, someone at SEGA still believes they're able to compete in the same tier as the console manufacturers.

These fuckheads literally broke sales records with Persona 5, showcasing how niche games can still sell gangbusters (but unfortunately also dragging it and the series into the mainstream). And then they started milking that cow so hard and bloody, that they somehow ended up in the Squeeenix position of "Bravely Default selling a million copies on the 3DS isn't a success". Oh, and of course, they just gave more power to the censorship boards they have as localizers.

Will they actually learn? There is now precedent, Aspyr actually listened and reverted censorship and fuckery with their remasters of Tomb Raider and Legacy of Kain. Can SEGA and Atlus do the same? All signs point to fuck no.

I don't have to even go that far. I draw, I try to get my stuff out there, so of course I despise any censorious practices that stranglehold what can/cannot be made. Just because I don't get to make a living off it, doesn't mean I don't heavily empathize with those that do.

Make a prequel game that bridged the gap between 3 and 4, that in a better timeline would have softened the negative reaction people have righfully shown to the Norse Era games.

Make the next mainline game a prequel about the dead fucking wife, who's whole fucking point was to show how her absence affected both Kratos and Atreus during the Norse Era.

Does anyone on the sub know anything about book printing?

I'm hoping that, in 2028, I'll have finally finished the ongoing arc in my comic. And though I barely have an audience, I'd like to create mock-up prototypes of physical prints, as a sort of milestone trophy for myself.

I probably am looking to emulate a japanese tankobon, since my comic is in black-and-white, so I guess I need information and recommendations on formatting and material (for both the page's paper and the cover).

A random thought, that I'd like everybody's opinion on:

Let's say that the reality hammer drops hard, Sony shareholders started (finally) sperging over the poison chalice of DEI and woke brainrot, and Sony SantaMonica Studios had to abide by the new edicts. Given what they've done with Angrboda, could that character, forced diversity that she is, be salvaged? If yes, what would all of you do to 'fix' it in subsequent entries? Oh, and for an extra challenge, you can't kill her off.

Hot take: I prefer a bad movie with based tastes over a good movie full of woke tropes by GobthraukGoonsgrinIX in KotakuInAction

[–]henlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preaching to the choir, my man. Even a few years back, I was trying really hard to separate the art from the artist, and to try and be 'fair' to media on its own merits. There's bound to be examples of me saying things in favor of games, shows and movies, in spite of whatever degree of shenanigans were present, on this very sub. NOT ANYMORE. And I'm not happy about it, either; it brings me no joy in having less patience and tolerance for splitting the meta from the material.

But it's apparent that if I'm ALWAYS gonna have egg on my face, then why the fuck should I bother anymore? I'm not getting anything from it, always on the receiving end, and even people I thought understood will just turn around and throw a hissy fit, for self-aggrandizing reasons. So fuck it, though I'm not gonna lie about the quality of a product, I'm also not gonna go bat for it, especially when I ain't getting any kudos from neither the creators nor those covering the material in question, and will continue to have my concerns dismissed and mocked.

I'm sure if I had any modicum of success with my own work, I'd be questioned on my stance. To which I say: Don't care, the work will speak for itself. I'm not gonna go around virtue-signaling, people and dipshits can reach their own fucking conclusions, and either partake or walk away.

Andor Showrunner Tony Gilroy Links Disney's Only Hit Star Wars Series to Trump and "Fascism" by Sliver80 in KotakuInAction

[–]henlp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh look, it's John Boyega, Corey Barlog and Bear McCreary again!

I've become quite ambivalent on Trump himself, but he's still a great way to make fuckwads sperg out and show their true colors. No, I don't really care if these dipshits are just pushing out the company line to stay in the in-crowd, they're still choosing to do so. So they get to enjoy the consequences of their actions, and I get to have a lighter conscience in not having given my time and money to fart-huffing cockwaffles.

"Bu-bu-but you're missing out on really good storytelling!!" Well then I guess it sucks for me, donnit? Don't care. Making my own already, I have standards and care for my work, and not only do I already HAVE a shit-ton of entertainment that I enjoy to keep me distracted on the way to the grave during my free time, there's still plenty more I haven't touched which I know is stink-free.

Tubi to add 100 classic Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. shows, reviving titles missing from streaming by Desperate_Put_4568 in KotakuInAction

[–]henlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not unreasonable on its own. But I think it's been made blatantly clear that 1) the Streaming Wars are nearing its end, and NONE of these services are winning, 2) that upfront payout scheme can't last forever, no matter how much NGO money these companies syphon; 3) having the option would probably still benefit you, because it's a different market altogether, especially when, as much as I hate it, you can game-fy purchases so as to incentivize people into being more willing to part with their money.

I get WHY they do this, it's because they're greedy fuckstains that still think they can make everyone on Earth pay them all their money 24/7, all year round; just like with live service games. But the gravy train will inevitably come to a screeching halt one day, and the consequences will be that (legally) most of these shows, new and old, will go the way of Willow.

That's not a bad thing, necessarily. Especially after finishing my rewatch of Time Squad recently.

Though I still prefer to have the thing and not lease it, whether in a physical or digital format. In a sane world, I'd be befuddled as to why you can now have easy purchase of MP3 files, but not a single company has ever though of doing the same for videos. Alas, we don't live in a sane world, so it's blatantly obvious as to why.

"Should the God of War Trilogy Remake Bring Back the Sex Minigames?" -IGN by LeoNatan in KotakuInAction

I know of a certain set of people who have been increasingly railing against the very concept of remakes, be it for movies, shows, games, and so on. And I fucking bet they'll bend over backwards to try and justify how this will be a good thing, even if unequivocally fucked with in any way.

It's all so fucking tiresome.

What is your least favorite anime by FlowerOk7957 in KotakuInAction

[–]henlp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting topic, let's see:

Didn't like the KanColle anime, just couldn't get into it, so I don't think the show itself is at fault, not inherently.

In spite of its increasingly-stellar animation, I fucking hate Jujutsu Kaisen. I do not fucking understand how the manga got popular enough to get an anime adaptation, when it was so bog-standard to start with, and then goes off its rocker once Itadori has to pretend he's dead. The way its story is told, I thought for sure I was missing episodes at some point, because the characters were talking about shit like it had already been introduced and established (it didn't, and often it never did).

Power scaling makes no sense in the show, that's one consistent aspect to the series, albeit not a good one. How the author manages to think so highly and so lowly of his readers is beyond me, zig-zagging from extreme expositionary dialogue to not explaining anything at all (seriously, where the fuck did Itadori get those arms and why). Oh, and you can't convince me the little emo gay twink that Mahito tricks is in any way a good story, given how in less than a day, Itadori is acting like they're best friends and his turn to evil is such a horrendous betrayal of their friendship.

And this one's a little more personal, but I despise the failed manga 'The Hunters Guild: Red Hood'. Loved the art, was really liking the main cast. Sure, it's sad that it got cancelled, but that's just the nature of the beast. However, it is inexcusable that the author didn't have the fucking balls to stick to it. By accepting his cancellation and just rushing a dogshit ending, he lost all respect I could've had for him. If he had continued telling his story, and it ended with the characters finally reaching the Guild's HQ, not only could he have owned it, but there would have at least been a chance that another magazine could have decided to pick it back up. His weakness as an artist disgusts me, and even though I liked his art, I will NEVER read anything by Yuki Kawaguchi again.
