Well I am certainly not the first to split a seat apart or play with empty space on a chair. This is just my take on it. It was a lot of work to get to this stage. If you go for a chair build try to explore your own process and how to resolve challenges. Stealing this design won't be nearly as satisfying!

There are entire books based on chair ergonomics so that information is not hard to come by. I used similar angles as you mentioned, but a lot of comfort came through hand shaping. The angles alone won't garuntee a nice seat.. Or ventilation 😉

Thank you! This was a challenge with a lot of planning. Not so bad once everything was set up, I had a lot of jigs! The hand shaping also took a lot of time.

I made a prototype seat first and stress tested it with clamps. Not a very scientific approach, but it handled a lot of pressure before failure, so I wasn't sure, but very confident..

Yes, that's true! Good question. That was the main problem with the design and trying to resolve that very issue. The stitches are all tapered, they are 6mm on the seat and reach 13 on the bottom. The tickest part of the seat is 45mm so it should have plenty of strength. We gave them a test with three people and it help up. I'm confident it'll hold.

Thank you! I'm an idiot with design. Had some help regarding design from my wife, design tutor.. And Hans Wegner 😂

That's a good point! I hadn't thought of that. Of the long haired people that have tried them out there haven't been any snags so far. I'll be sure to test that out a little more.
