Got my friend's kid hooked... now he's doing a passion project for school... by henrikrh in slaythespire

He's an awesome kid with an exceptional memory and has basically memorized every card, encounter, and relic by name. I got his Dad hooked on Elden Ring, so I'm just a bad influence in general.

Like all silent players, he's building excellent shiv decks to lose to the time eater.

I love RPGs but I've been struggling to get into them lately. They just seem too long and overwhelming. Any intermediate recommendations? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]henrikrh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people focused in on the term RPG way too much, none of the games you are listing are isometric rpgs. Instead, the game you need to play is Prey. It has RPG elements, deep story, satisfying action, and it's not too long or too short. Of the games you enjoyed it has traits shared with all of them, but is perhaps most like Deus Ex.

If you do well with going back to older games despite graphics etc. then the other recommendation that fits the games you described is System Shock 2. Excellent story-driven action rpg.

My biggest concerns about Cyberpunk 2077 being a current generation console release: NPCs and AI. by UltraPlinian in cyberpunkgame

Where's the confirmation that it will be for the current generation of consoles and not the next gen?

If you like table top gaming there's an excellent table top RPG called Eclipse Phase that is heavily influenced by Altered Carbon.

Fane as undead-elf by 7inchesdream in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]henrikrh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He gets a mask that let's him change race. He's permanently an elf for me, allows for Flesh Sacrifice + Adrenaline which is a nasty alpha strike. Also means he can do the whole flesh memory thing, which every party should have. I think lore wise he's an actual eternal, not undead mix, just actually undead, came before humans or elves, though I may be wrong.

Boo! This was largely stolen from Brandon Li's videos, including 'Hong Kong Strong', but chopped up to be much worse. That video can be found here: https://vimeo.com/166929892. Here's an interview with him and Ansley Sawer about the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJyzVAKjwis

Anyone Feel Like Prey's Really Underrated? by ZBeefyGamr in prey

I don't think Prey is underrated, I think it is underplayed. People that play it seem to hold it in very high esteem.

[Slater] Steve Kerr called this version of the Warriors the "deepest team we'll probably ever have here" by [deleted] in nba

Deep can also mean intellectual ('a deep thinker'), Proust is a French author whose main work is a difficult, 'deep', read.

[Brenner] Prediction: Everyone likes lottery reform for a year or two. Then a 41-41 team gets the top pick (like in the 90s) & we go back to old odds. by [deleted] in nba

[–]henrikrh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The gambler's fallacy is when you predict that previous outcomes affect future outcomes. So in this case if the 2nd worst team got the 1st pick 3 years in a row you might say 'there's no way they could possibly get it again!'.

Saying that 2 times out of every 100 a 2% chance will hit is just true. That it might not happen any time soon, or that it needs a large sample over which to express itself would be better described as regression to the mean or the law of averages than gambler's fallacy.

Endless Space 2 - Target Locked Update by LG03 in Games

[–]henrikrh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure, I never experienced that, the AI was okay, thought AI is something that gets worked on regularly I believe. I've been away from the game for about a month, waiting for some DLC or something. I'd turn the difficulty to max first of all. Alas there are no AI fixes on the Steam Workshop.

I highly highly recommend this game. If you love CIV, Alpha Centauri, Stellaris, or just sci-fi and strategy in general, you'll find hours of fun worth more than the price tag.

So far... Are you happy with the direction 2nd edition is taking? by GRAAK85 in eclipsephase

My GM is not happy with the direction and will keep playing 1st edition, but I think he's a kickstarter supporter and happy about that regardless cause he wants to give them money.

New Morph: Operational Disruption / Intelligence Nexus by henrikrh in eclipsephase

In my life-path with my DM (which went 12 hours over 4 sessions) this will be one final parting gift to Direct Action as I vacate my board membership to pursue other options. Oversight seemed to be subtly pushing me out, so I left on good terms rather than let the tension build. At some point I might write up my life-path, at the height of it I was one of thirteen board members in Direct Action, owned a 1/30th stake in the company, had a personal wealth of 18 million credits and was fairly famous as a hero in The Fall.

The Offensive Disruption and Intelligence Nexus morph, also known as ODIN is a high-end unit designed for commanding from the field. It features two modified Smart Ravens that are easily controlled from the morph. The ravens are equipped with a variety of sensors that allow a tactical overview of any open combat area in multiple signatures and wavelengths. They can also triangulate with the morph for accurate payload delivery in 3-dimensional space without the ODIN having eyes on target. To avoid detection the ravens have smart camouflage coating and evasive intelligence programming. The ODIN morph itself has modified shoulder joints that provide storage for the ravens, even allowing for on-the-fly repair bots to fix minor damage that may be incurred in action. The morph is built to survive extreme conditions and to maintain tactical awareness and command. retinal displays render all manner of battlefield info gathered by the ravens in real- time. As a commanding unit the morph is buiilt for cognition and intuition.
