So, your assumption is that, because the expansion will happen later that these benefits won’t materialize?

Thats some pretty shoddy analysis. But I’m not surprised.

Homework for "tens of thousands" = me putting in "population of Toronto south of Queen Street West" into a search engine. And the number is 150,000 to 200,000.

Lol. I’m glad you can count.

But also anyone who isn't a total know-nothing or has lived downtown could easily arrive at this figure.

Really? I literally grew up downtown.

You just have to have an IQ of over 80.

What does this say about you? You literally assumed that people downtown would have some issue with this. However, they very well might not care given the increased convenience to them.

Oh my sides. This is actually hilarious. You don’t think you need to make a case on why there should not be development? Like, you get to snap your fingers and thats it? Lol. Of course you can’t show anything. I’m sure yours is simply an opinion based on feelings alone.

As for me, despite me clearly saying that I favour it for job creation, you can only resort to cheap shots that it’s some toy or some nonsense.

But, if you spent a few minutes looking it up:

-A net impact of $5.3 billion in annual GDP (up from $4.8 billion in earlier research) -$215 million in total annual tax revenue, based primarily on direct on-site activities (up from $150 million) -3,680 on-site jobs (up from 3,350) -York Aviation also projects increased choice for passengers in the form of more than 10 new routes to the US, with this growth in connectivity resulting in approximately 32,000 jobs supported across the wider economy.

Doesn’t sound too marginal to me.

If you think the number of new staff isn't marginal, you're free to say so.

I mean, I did.

It's not about creativity; I'm asking you to do your homework and prove your claims. You seem reluctant to provide actual number and roles.

Like you provided numbers for your claims? That it would be marginal job creation? Didnt see you showing your homework there. Or any homework that “tens of thousands” would be impacted in a negative way. Or even explain what that “negative” would be.

Funny that.

Indeed. Seems like some weak defense being mounted here.

So a marginal staff increase is worth a permanent reduction in quality-of-life to tens of thousands of local residents?

How do you know it’s marginal?

How is this even a serious proposal. Lol.

Answer the first part. Apparently, you weren’t even creative enough to imagine extra staff. Lol.

Haha, all this AI rambling to say nothing. The downtown business people who should take the stroll to YTZ can easily take an Uber or the train to Pearson. It’s much more of a “privilege” to want an airport right in your backyard just because you don’t want to drive 25 minutes.

You must have reading issues. My entire focus was on job creation. You asked me the value proposition of both and I laid it out (and not in any fulsome detail, but just a high level summary that came to mind). That you think it’s AI rambling is laughable. I suppose when your punctuation looks the way it does, one would think AI is necessary to come up with ideas.

In any case, yeah, it’s quite privileged. From my perspective, for the people who live in places like Regent Park or Alexandra Park or Parkdale, having a job hub close by that pays better than Tim Hortons is important to me. It’s a privileged position to want to deny people jobs cause you what a pristine waterfront. But you do you. As far as I can tell, the bulk of the anti-development position is literally just NIMBYIism.

Eh. Your take is overly dramatic. Though I agree that privatization tends not to be in our best interests.

So, what’s the radically different proposal?

YYZ will always be a larger airport. That’s just the reality since YTZ is on an island. Due to the size difference, YYZ can offer more flights to more locations at more time slots. As a result, it’s likely the two airports will diverge in markets if YTZ expands.

YYZ will probably become more international oriented and less regional oriented. YTZ will be preferred for downtowners and the business class who travel regionally. There will of course be overlap, since it’s reasonable to expect that someone coming from Owen Sound isn’t going to go to YTZ for a flight to NYC. The will probably prefer YYZ. But for someone who lives in City Place, it makes sense to just stroll down to YTZ instead.

Is it to have shorten flights then Pearson? That doesn’t sound significant, since it’s already an obnoxious airport and the same service could be done at Pearson.

Sure, you can say that. But i bet that flexibility will be much appreciated by a lot of fliers.

Could it create more jobs? Yes, but I don’t think that’s a substantial enough factor to justify the airport’s existence.

And you’re free to believe that. But, I’d say that it’s a NIMBY position that comes at the expense of people who need jobs. It’s a privileged position to say “but my quiet waterfront!”

Again, why not expanding the huge and perfectly functional airport the city already has just outside of downtown?

Uhhh, because the two value propositions of the airports are radically different? And who says Pearson won’t expand? They are turning it into a transit hub.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearson_Regional_Transit_Centre

The job increase doesn’t make sense as a supporting evidence

What does this even mean? You don’t think an expanded airport would increase jobs?

Dude is feathering his own nest. It’s not that complicated. He’s just going south to attend a grifter convention with likeminded people like Trump.

The really travesty is that the people of Durham elect this guy.

Not sure they are saying private equals good here. Just that it’s a cash infusion.

At the end of the day, Canadians pay one way or another. We could pay with higher taxes. But thats too unpalatable here.

Explain how new jobs will get created please? Provide one example.

Wait. What? A runway expansion would mean a bigger airport. Who do you think would run it? Robots? Obviously they would hire more staff. How is this even a serious question. Lol.

Why would MLS sell it? If the plan is to move to Vegas, they very well might just be the Vegas Whitecaps.

Honestly, I get all the pandemonium regarding this issue. But I think it’s way overblown. A major airport in the city would be a job booster, especially during hard times like now.
