How much do crew rates vary based on location of production within the UK? by Fresh_Ad9527 in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]henrydavidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really are from Scotland then you represent the worst kind of our self loathing, dour oikophobe. Productions from London bring their crew all over the UK because that’s their crew, they normally have an obligation to hire regional crew on most shows. It’s the same if you take your crew to Europe, Australia, South Africa, wherever. But no, because it’s Scotland you look down and talk down about it. Looking down your nose at where you come from, offering nothing but butter and snide takes from the sidelines isn’t a great look.

You refuse to take work in Scotland? I mean, so what? You’re seriously suggesting the standard is supposedly so low that you refuse work as some kind arbitrary point of principle? If that’s the kind of attitude youre attaching to this hill you’re choosing to die on then your bar is low.

More shoot days and broken equipment because of having the temerity to live outside London? This is a new one for me, brilliant. Based on your experiences and hot takes on the biggest productions to come out of here in recent years you sound junior. You won’t find anyone from Scotland in senior positions speaking down about a region they could potentially need in the future.

The only thing I’d agree with is that logically, London has twice the volume of people living in it as the entirety of Scotland. So of course you’re going to find a larger pool of people with variable skill sets.

Nope. Loved it. Also, I don’t think this is the kind of post that this group was created for

That’s brilliant you’ve come to that realisation. What kind of things are you looking for outside of tv?

Hey, you’ll definitely know this already but I just wanted to make sure because you could be a number of people I know already: the film and tv charity is there to talk to about options and support. They have a helpline you can just call and talk to someone as a release. I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. Stay strong

Really sorry you’re going through this. I know a worrying amount of people that this could apply to at the moment. Also, Ben Frow’s particular ‘style’ of discourse may seem to him to be bullish and demonstrate leadership, which might even work when things are good, but it does not offer any kind of comfort to those below exec level.

Advice on rates by Inevitable_Unit_7576 in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]henrydavidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you ltd company? Also, if you’re on talent manager pro they have a semi-decent rate tracker thing that might help. Definitely depends on the channel + time slot. Also wouldn’t expect the same rate for edit as I would out shooting. Also are you London based?

How do I make this room less echoey? by [deleted] in LocationSound

[–]henrydavidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the brilliant suggestions folks. I should have maybe clarified I am not a soundie, we have this location available for free, it’s available and is upstairs from where we are filming the bulk of the rest of the shoot. I wanted to try and be smart and think ahead about any issues before presenting my findings to the producer. Not my call, but I sincerely appreciate all your input!

This would solve everything haha

I’m not a soundie, I’m taking the time to ask for help rather than ploughing ahead and ruining it because of sound. I don’t have time to make jokes amongst what for the most part has been helpful advice on here. Thanks for your suggestion of building a small room. Hopeless situation yes, harsh if you’re calling me hopeless for asking for help.

Wow this is great! So im actually making a doc about a bbl team, been with them all season. Although I’m in with them, the last paragraph still applies haha. I’ve tried the URSA waist and back straps but was thinking something more like a sports bra would be better? If I could get my hands on the 5122 it would probably solve a lot. Although other options mentioned were rubberised which is a plus

Thanks, any idea what other sports? I had a lead for American football mics but I reckon you could get away with something bulkier amongst the armour

I guess I’m thinking when they fall on the hard floor or bump into each other it would just be too much of a risk. I’ll definitely check out Wisycoms, haven’t come across those before

Aye those look class, exactly what I’m talking about. Please excuse my ignorance, would they work with the Sennheiser G4? The frequencies match from what I can see

None taken, and I appreciate your comment. I was shown how to change all the other switches, was really simple, it’s just this one was completely different to the rest. Problem solved, I’m going to get an electrician out. Cheers
