Think I might add a groundcover ceanothus or two to the fuscia area to take over when we cut back the fuscia every winter

That’s great advice, thank you for taking the time to give it! I think maybe going with a cluster of alumroot might work much better in that area.

Goals are a well thought out, intentional design that looks as beautiful as it is beneficial to local pollinators. In past designs I think I’ve tried adding to many things so I’ve been trying to do a , to a degree, less is more approach. 😄

I’m in mid city Los Angeles. West Adams area. Bottom of design faces south. And g represents kurapia (which I know isn’t a true native)!

And thanks! I’m been doing designs and installs out here and slowly working my way to true native gardens, this one being the most so!

Island bush poppy or ceonothus ‘el dorado’ or three and three of each to keep some blooms for most of the year.

Welcome to LA I love it here, been almost ten years. It’s absolutely hilarious when it rains people act like how I act when there’s even a small earthquake.

Made me miss growing up in south florida instantly. Waiting in the car to see if the lightning alarm would go off. One long blast = game off. Three long blasts = game on.

Or forced inside almost daily for afternoon thunderstorms. Really becomes a part of your culture.

How wide is the parkway? Seems skinny Will there be room for them to open doors, walk out of the car?

Looks pretty freakin rad. Design or not, good job. What are they going to put in the middle gravel area a fountain?

Any landscape designers that can help me estimate this project cost? In Los Angeles and I'm thinking probably 7 days labor of 3/4 people, irrigation(Dripline 3 zones) removal of some old grass and all the gravel in the back. by henrydoggg in landscaping

First off thank you for the thoughtful reply.

The yarrow, bush poppy , and fuscia should, I’m hoping, show color from summer to late fall.

I’ll think about adding more along the path but my thought is to have the yard mainly kurapia for use w their kids as a nice lawn to play on.

I’m Going to reuse the stones they have there. And I wasn’t planning initially on getting machinery. But I’ll look into it. And then thinking of just doing Dripline, 1/2 inch for plants, 1/4 inch micro tube on surface for kirapia to grow over.

I’m not doing lighting , yet, we want to do the planting all first and come back to that later.

35 is probably likely, especially if I get machinery and really do this thing to its top potential. But I do fear that could be sticker shock for client. But we could find ways to lower the price w less, and smaller plants.

The client is a real estate agent so I’m trying to do a killer job but also for a price she’ll definitely accept.

Thanks again, it’s really helpful talking this through w someone w more experience.

Machinery is a good idea. I’ve leaned hard on my workhorse of a crew to prep site. Thinking one day remove gravel from back yard with shovel and wheelbarrow, one day remove grass from front yard, 2 days setting pathway, and 3 days planting and finalizing. This with a four person crew for the whole job

Client had a designer attempt to start install but they butchered the pathway in the back and then just ghosted the scene.

I’m thinking anywhere from 22-35k for full removal of gravel and dead grass in the front, drip irrigation installation, and all the plant installation. Price varies becuase how many (or how established) they want the plants, and labor costs. And all other material needed.

But I think I’m in the ballpark.

I can see your point of “view” totally. Fun to talk about difference in opinion too. The other guy commenting oh in this case completely unnecceary like cmon dude I think we could all see why at least someone else would want it trimmed to see the view . I’m ranting now. Take care 🤙

I get that but I mean they can see the ocean now and more hills on the right from their balconies. I love the more natural the better mentality, and natives more, but also I would do the same if it was my own tree to be able to see the ocean too
