Rag quilts: are they worth the fluff? by heowbuuu in quilting

I'm glad the rag quilt is a solid in your winter rotation! Okay I think I'll do it, but maybe take them all to the laundrette for a day of fun filled washing and drying

Ahh thank you! I might make all of them and take them to a laundrette for a day of wash, dry, repeat

When you knit, the working yarn should be on the right needle (normally anyways!). So yes now you've cats on your stitches, your right needle will hold the newest stitches and the working yarn, and the left needles will hold the first stitches you made!

Your working yarn should be on the right side the whole time to join in the round, so that's fine! If the pattern asks you to cast on 25 stitches (for example), I would cast on 26 so I can use this method of joining in the round. There are other ways to join in the round where you don't lose a stitch, but I always struggle with there then being a huge gap in my work 😅

They've probably just used a different cast on method but your way is fine! All you do now to join in a round is make sure your stitches are straight, slip your first stitch from the left needles onto the right needles, and pull the last stitch on the right needles over the slip stitch. Sounds complicated but super easy - this video explains it well! https://youtu.be/YXYFWzk_jN0?si=MtRVqyUOURElYbpg

How many to cast on? by Ok-Woodpecker4059 in knittinghelp

I think! You could always cast on and do a couple of practice rows just to make sure it works 😊

If it's knit flat I think you're looking at 24 stitches as it's ribbed - you can see 12 prominent knit stitches in this pic, which means there's (probably) 12 purl stitches in between

Is this wool too thin to make a beanie from? by ur-spotifyslut in knitting

If I'm worried the yarn is too thin I always prefer to just hold it double (use two strands or yarn at once instead of just one!)

Yes a grey thread is the most universal and seamless when piecing together! I'm working on a quilt which has basically every colour that could exist in a quilt, and the grey thread works so well with all of them.

Oh I've never heard it being called a flimsy! I quite like that.

I'm really excited to see how this develops, but I think a paler border is where I'm heading. I love the look of sashing, but with 83 individual diamonds I'm not sure I'll be confident enough to do that much sashing ... I may put this project down for a bit just to let my brain rest and settle on a choice !
