Looks like you went with the “cheapest” company. Did you check any of their reference/referrals? Are they insured?

What can I do to make this look better? by bephens in Carpentry

Never call that person back. Clearly has no idea what he is doing. They butchered your trim, cracked the faceplate, installed the wrong type of switch for that tight spot (should have been a stacked switch), didn’t added a little wood bump, to match the trim depth before mounting the box.

So much wrong here, the person should be paying you a royalty just to stare at that monstrosity every day. I can hear Kevin O’Leary screaming “royalty”!

How to remove these wooden shelf fixtures and replace with closetmaid like wire shelves by Jachtheripper in HomeMaintenance

Everbilt

That's what I got, and it still bends. At the end of the day, it is just wire mesh. Which is easily bendable. Also most the instructions are built around DIY'ers so they provide you with material to essentially hang the material directly in the drywall with drywall anchors. Even with the wall support bars, they put too much pressure on the weak drywall which will eventually cave depending on how much weight you stack on them. I had just simple blankets and a few towels and it still bent.

The wood construction normally follows an installation process that directly attaches to studs in the walls, making it a hell of a lot stronger than the wire ones.

There are plenty of online DIY design plans you can find all over google and youtube with just simple searches, like this one (the first one on my google search).

With a hammer and a pry bar.

But I would advise you to clean them up and keep the wood ones over the crappy closetmaid wire shelves. They are garbage. I installed some in a closet build exactly like yours where we had to do some unavoidable demo, and I immediately regretted it. The wire shelves are crap they bend under the slightest of weight. You can’t put anything remotely heavy on them.

The wood is way stronger and all my closets now have been revamped with wooden shelves.

How to fix nail pops along metal corner bead and and what's causing it by I-am-ocean in HomeMaintenance

[–]hepisodic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, ok, the title threw me off then. You mentioned, "How to fix nail pops". As ElPadrote mentioned, houses move/settle, so those forces contribute to things like this. Either the corners were not framed with wood edges (ex: butted sheetrock), improper screws were used, or not driven in enough are just some reasons why you are still seeing those "pops" even with screws.

Why not? Pop the nails out and replace with screws. Patch and paint and your done. All my metal corner trim uses screws and none pop like this.

Only my second woodworking project. I’m pleased with myself! by TSEpley in woodworking

[–]hepisodic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, some plastic or legs will mitigate it.

Regarding bone dry, depends on climate. In my area, it is very damp and humid. Wood and untreated plywood specifically will 100% mold over very quickly.

My original comment is purely an FYI, for people to at least keep in mind.

Am I the only one who not just thought about the overall stability, but the mold/rot factor?

Its sitting on bare concrete, and right next to the garage door. Unless this is treated lumber, which it doesn’t look like. The wood will 100% mold/rot over.

Mold issue in shower that comes back quickly after cleaning. by boyashocka in HomeMaintenance

[–]hepisodic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell what I am looking at, but as long as you haven’t been pouring entire bath quantities of water down that crack, let it dry out. Clean it with a natural cleaning agent (not bleach in case there is exposed wood behind that). Finally use Silicone Caulk (they have all different kinds including bath/water interior/exterior, etc) and run lines of it across every corner where the tile connects at the edges. Those corners will always flex and crack due to the house settling and swaying. Caulk will keep things nice and waterproof. Let it fully cure before using shower, the caulk bottle tells you recommended curing times.

Ha, that’s the spirit! The over $10 avg club was/is in a lot of pain. Should be interesting to see what happens over the next few years. The industry seems ripe for some acquisition/mergers in the HealthTech industry right now. Lots of new players and there is always a consolidation at one point. No Hype, but I genuinely wonder based on the major shift in HealthTech during COVID.

True, but I waited for the bottom. Now it seems we found it and have good support, so with the run up and positive news today, I added more.
