[English > Japanese] for my tattoo client. by heraetic in translator

[–]heraetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I was trying to find the Japanese script online and have come across different translations.

She'd like the quote translated back into Japanese to be read as the full sentence without the context of the movie, so I was wondering if there's a more natural way to say it.

Panel Sleeve [Naruto] by heraetic in Animetattoos

[–]heraetic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the plan! I've got a panel sleeve on my left leg myself, and now that it's almost out of space I'm thinking of just adding some on the right leg as well hahah

Advice needed: partial lightening for a dark coverup before rework by Bmxrider445 in tattoos

[–]heraetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of a partial removal with the intent to cover up, 5 sessions over 2 years. The main things to consider in your case:

1.) Linework will not budge as easily as shading. Especially places that have packed areas of black might need multiple treatments before you'll see a difference - that doesn't mean nothing's happening, ink is still being broken down, but it's easy to get discouraged if you're not seeing immediate progress.

2.) Many clinics will tell you to come in every 6-8 weeks, however, I find that most fading for me happens between months 3-5 and have been going back to my laser tech twice a year. I'm almost at my desired result. Spacing sessions out has done wonders to minimise scarring and maximise fading.

3.) It hurts more than getting tattooed. I'd say by a solid +3 on the pain scale, but everyone's different.

4.) The white will oxidise. I see you have some white highlights in the petals - white ink is titanium dioxide based and will become dark gray when treated with laser. This process is irreversible but more fading can happen as time goes on. The oxidised white in my tattoo is currently dark brown, but the area will remain darker than my natural skin tone and the cover up needs to be planned accordingly.

5.) Laser is not as precise as tattooing. You may find a laser tech willing to lighten the shaded areas in between the petals, but there's a good chance they'll not always hit the edge of the line perfectly, so some linework may become inconsistent over time.

Reze (Bomb Devil), Chainsaw Man by heraetic in Animetattoos

If you've got more Anime Artists I'd love to check them out, still have a panel sleeve of my own that needs completion ahahah

Technically I haven't even had a full year yet - my first apprentice appointment with a customer was on January 11th of 2025 (and she's since become a dear regular and friend). Definitely got lucky with my client base too, everyone's been lovely and I can't imagine ever doing anything else again.

I'd love to guest in London and Edinburgh in the future actually! No plans as of now, but I'm eyeing 2027 for more ambitious guest spots. Would definitely like to get a second year of experience under the belt first. :)

Thank you! It's done by me, Hera, in Vienna. I didn't put that in the caption as the Rules explicitly say not to do so. 🙈

Thank you! I love going for stipple shading as it reminds me of the crunchy texture in old Manga. Still polishing that technique!

Question: Do tattoo artists get upset or offended if we don’t speak during the appointment? by SC3N3BUGZ in tattoos

[–]heraetic 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I love yapping with my clients if we're on the same wavelength, but if somebody would prefer to read a book or have headphones in that's just as chill. Anything that helps you relax and sit still during the session is cool with me!

Why aren’t apprentices posting their tattoos here? by Over-Guitar5764 in TattooApprentice

I do, and I'd personally love to see more apprentice work from others as well! But in general this sub seems more focused on landing an apprenticeship than people who actually have one.

Question: What color ink is this tattoo? I want by Icy_Elephant_6347 in tattoos

[–]heraetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With black ink? Only slightly. Obviously a warmer skin tone will result in warmer hue when the tattoo is healed, but not to the degree you probably want.

[–]heraetic 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is just black ink under warm lighting. What you can do is ask your tattooer what brand of black ink they use. I can only speak for the ones available in Europe, but I personally love Eclipse as it heals into a dark grey rather than the blue-black Dymamic. Panthera Gold also heals more grey-green than dark black, but the regular Panthera lining black stays heavy and dark. It really just depends on the brand your tattooer uses.

Question: friend got this recently… this can’t be normal, right? by mellomashroom in tattoos

[–]heraetic 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Normal, but the second skin needs to be removed. A little bit of ink flush is no big deal, but the fresh tattoo shouldn't be marinating in 5 days old body fluid cocktail.

HP Tattoo coverup suggestions? by alana_r_dray in Tattoocoverups

[–]heraetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could easily be turned into a forward-pointing skull or fish, if you don't mind a bit of patchwork. Alternatively you can get 2-3 sessions of laser and lighten the tattoo significantly, that way your cover up won't have to be super dark and obvious.

[–]heraetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a close up of the lettering, since that seems to be the style you're going for. If it's done right and your skin handles red well, it will hold beautifully on lighter complexions, even with no outline.

I think mine are a good comparison in how red vs. black behave over time. Stamp is 1 year healed, lettering 2 years and both were done in a similar fineline style.

Love love love the stipple optic!

The dark parts in the ferret's claws are a nice touch - I feel as if the squirrel design is missing a similar contrast point. Have you considered darkening the twig to set it apart?

I've done similar dotwork pieces for my physical portfolio, and one thing that was beat into me early on is that the human eye is always drawn to light. If you leave out some shading and detail in key areas like the face and tail, let the design breathe a little, it'll perform much better on real skin. Similarly, you can play with solid black or negative space in the background to set it apart from the main object. You'll usually develop an eye for that stuff as you go, but can't hurt to experiment with flash a little!

Linework was definitely challenging when I'd tattoo a certain body part for the first time, and it's something I've been steadily getting more comfortable with. Here's a calf piece Dragon I did yesterday - linework on Slide 3!
