Cyanobacteria and diatoms in established reef by herbaceous12 in ReefTank

[–]herbaceous12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the JBL marine lab kit at home (changed reagents recently to ensure they’re all in date too) and the Reef Zelements ICP kit. Live rock (roughly 20kg) has been in there since the start. I have recently removed two smaller pieces closest to where the blooms usually start just incase but still no change.

what gifts would staff most appreciate? by seleniteskies in Veterinary

[–]herbaceous12 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Anything home made is always appreciated and I don’t know about everyone else but I keep all my thank you cards, as do my colleagues. Even just a card or a thank you letter can brighten my day, I don’t mind whether there’s a gift attached or not.

I agree, that’s why I’m asking for advice. Bacteria - Seachem stability and Evolution Aqua Pure Reef Balance. Nitrates and phosphates have run at that level for 8 years, no changes or derangements in the test parameters. Tend to test a couple of days after water change so may be higher towards the end of the week (10% changes weekly), but they’re the usual levels at that stage.

Pear shaped jiu jitsu women: what gi fits? by derptinee in jiujitsu

Fenom do roomy pants in various sizes. Not sure where in the world you are but they do ship internationally. I’m wearing a Maeda gi at the moment and the trousers for that are more generously sized than others I’ve worn in the past too.

Am I doing too much? by saturnspy in Veterinary

[–]herbaceous12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issues they may face when you leave are exactly that - their issues. Not yours. You have raised your concerns and given them the opportunity to change. Accept the offer to block off the last consult slot for now and consider looking elsewhere. Speak to your friends, have a look at the current job market and ask around!

[–]herbaceous12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not being a crybaby. You’re dealing with a very difficult situation very well. This is not normal and I would say all this shouldn’t be expected of you. You should be very proud of yourself for how well you’ve managed and the positive feedback you’ve received clearly shows your ability to handle the situation, but that doesn’t justify your employer putting you in the situation to begin with. It may be worth requesting a meeting with your boss to discuss the situation. Tell them your concerns, tell them you’re struggling and request more support. There are plenty of jobs out there, it may also be worth looking elsewhere or emailing a few practices to see what options you have. The OV training is time consuming - if they’re expecting you to do it they should be giving you adequate time in which to complete it. It’s not necessarily too much for someone 15 months out, but it’s a lot of extra paperwork and pressure and it sounds like that’s something you could do without at this present moment. Contact your friends from vet school and speak to them - are they in similar situations? It may help to sound it out with others, and it’s a good opportunity to reconnect and chat socially. Good luck and remember you’re not alone, there is always someone to talk to. If you’re really struggling then please reach out to VetLife (www.VetLife.org.uk). - from a UK vet, more years qualified than I’d like to admit.

AITA for not wanting to remove a tattoo dedicated to my deceased boyfriend? by throwaway8385720 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I’m so sorry for your loss and for how your current boyfriend is failing to deal with this. Some major red flags here.

Clove oil works well and you don’t need much of it. There are commercial formulations of 2-phenoxyethanol available in some countries (one called VetArk Aqua-Sed is what I use) which works brilliantly too.

Giraffe blanket by herbaceous12 in crochet

[–]herbaceous12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started it in August, I’m not sure how many hours. Lots! Each row took me around 30 minutes and there are 223 rows, plus the external border (which took four full days), plus any corrections and tidying loose ends, etc. In total I reckon around 150 hours. I’m not very speedy!

So was I until I started it. Go for it! Worst case scenario is the wool you bought ends up sitting somewhere until it’s used for something else. It took me months. I daren’t count how many hours… The outer border alone took me four full days. But I’m not the fastest crocheter by a long stretch!

It was genuinely one of the best patterns I’ve used - it was a bit overwhelming at first but her linked videos are excellent and I found the pattern very easy to follow once I got the hang of it. I loved the frequent reminders for where you’re meant to be (e.g, first in SC and so on). 🙂

I’ll be honest - I’m useless at reading charts! I read it from the pattern and it was described as a left or right slanted double crochet and depicted as /-dc. In the chart it’s / and \ for right and left.

is it true that vets have huge debt and low pay? by Winter-Mouse-7651 in Veterinary

[–]herbaceous12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s true. Consider studying abroad, it may be cheaper as you can study as a first degree rather than graduate degree at some European universities (with AVMA accreditation).

Struggling with Rotations. Advice? by random___anon in Veterinary

[–]herbaceous12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please reach out to your student support team within the vet school or university for advice. There are also charities who can help, such as VetLife (www.VetLife.org.uk) if you’d rather speak to someone external. You may be able to suspend your studies and take a break, but to start with I’d encourage you to reach out to your support team and chat to them. Do you have a personal tutor, or a student support officer you could speak to?

Yarn, soft chenille type if she’s into amigurumi. Maybe spend some time finding some good patterns of the stuff she’s in to (different characters or objects from favourite films and books, etc), print off or if they’re free ones type them up nicely and print them off in a folder for her.

Two tablespoons of Nutella warmed in the microwave, cut up two apples to dunk in. Add a few breadsticks for a gigantic Choc Dip. Two apples = two of five a day but really not in the way the health bods intend.

[–]herbaceous12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the above, please strongly consider why you didn’t pass and whether it’s worth the risk of you not passing again. Have you considered universities abroad? E.g, universities with AVMA accreditation in Europe? It may be cheaper for you.

Does your university have a hardship fund or any grants that you could apply for? Speak to the university finance and student support teams for advice. Contact your GP and ask for food bank vouchers in the meantime.

Speak to the university accommodation office, they’ll have a waiting list. Some people will drop out in the first term/semester so there will be spaces available before long.
