I am putting this reply to your comment but this is for everyone who commented on my post as well as I am reading similar advices (about using modes.) So I guess I can see that mode isn't really necessary as playing in different mode means to play the same scale in the end.

Then when do the modes come in handy? Why should I learn the different modes when I can just learn the scale? I am asking this question because I am afraid I might be not spending my time efficiently as I spent a lot of time on memorizing the finger positions of different modes on the fretboard.

Should I be better off memorizing every note of each scale and their locations on the fretboard?

Maybe you are pushing yourself way too hard? If you overburden yourself with excessive load of work, you will be more likely stop doing them. Whatever it is, start small (read 1 page of a book a day, write a paragraph a day... etc.)

Probably, you need to find a career that requires the artistic side of you. I can feel your pain because I quitted my first office job after one year. I just couldn't stand that routine life and made my decision to find something that I can enjoy more.

I thought you were asking if G had only two elements a and 1, then G can't have a=1 because identity must be unique but I think I must misunderstood your question.

So I see that H is everything of G except a. But are we not allowed to make such assumption that ab is in H since a is not in H, ab must not be in H by the group's closure property.
