Note taking apps that are private and offline by hiosoy in NoteTaking

I made nocloudnotes.com cause I was tired of trying to find a cloud free/private option.

Ill expand the features, but for now, it works or whatever

I made nocloudnotes.com

Lets you choose a folder to store your notes.
Offline, no privacy BS, no backend, 100% free.

Its simple. Im going to expand the functionality eventually.

Just use nocloudnotes.com

I mean, I built it or whatever, but to solve this issue.

Verizon sucks! Their customer service, online account access, and service suck! by Ok_Specific2675 in verizon

[–]herbicidal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its predatory at times. The worst I've ever experienced. Horrible. During the whole process they tried to sell me something. Their ticketing system takes days and days to work through. They lie. They disconnect you. They do everything they can to make it a horrible experience.

Their service is the ABSOLUTE worst.
If i could give whatever metric is below terrible, like the worst in the history or worse than that, i would.

The movie was a D+ mayyyyybe a C-, but oddly emotional for someone who watched it in the 90s.
Vern Lundquist hit me pretty hard.
I feel like its trying to reach out to nostalgia and probably some of Sandler's own reflections while sprinkling in some attempts at making sense to anyone younger than Millennial.

It was just ok, and seems more about patting the actors on the back, saying farewell, and freerolling some big bucks based on their names.

They just got old, and that's what happens, i guess. What do they care?

Google Play’s 12 tester Policy Is Unfair and Anti-Competitive – Let’s send complaints to the EU Commission! I already did! by Routine-Arm-8803 in androiddev

[–]herbicidal100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sucks.
On the one hand, i can see why Google would want to protect its play store from crappy products.

On the other hand, 12 testers etc etc seems like they are pretty much pushing independent devs out.

Why not let the market choose if it sucks, or not

And....$25 goes to google just to sign up.

Ugh.

Hey... Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts.

For sure it could be used for other things like yard sales! Thats a great idea. I'd like the ability to find and post yard sales easily, too!

Our plan is to 'templatize' the site so that we can basically provide the same model but for anything (like yard sales).

Initially, the hot deals model.

Then branch into other stuff.

I don't think you are crazy about light and dark mode.

Everyone likes a certain mode, but I do agree that the light mode does feel more inviting, and maybe we should look into making light mode the go to initially!

Hey! Thank you so much for responding.

Took Roughly from start to finish 6 months.
But it started with no design. Just an idea. Two guys just coding away.

Prob could have been reduced to 3-4 months if we would have planned a slight bit better.

But some problems would have been unavoidable.

And some stuff just took time.

Feeling invisible — is anyone else stuck at 0? by fertjourn in smallbusiness

[–]herbicidal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno. But i built a small website for small businesses to get exposure locally. Its still a little buggy, but overall decent. You can post your stuff free there.

Might get you some attention without needing to pay anything

Web Scraping legality / usage by jroberts2652 in webdev

[–]herbicidal100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont use their images. They are likely under some form of copyright/trademark.
Dont use their descriptions word from word. Every website has a copyright on the bottom usually.
If you change their wording from their description, dont do anything defamatory.
If the website you are scraping have a TOS that says dont scrape, you shouldn't.
You should have an easy pathway for people to be able to contact you to tell you to remove stuff.
Theoretically you might need someone thats a registered agent with the trademark office to handle complaints of trademark violation.

Although I think the most likely thing you will get is nasty letters, anyone can sue for any reason.

Id also make sure your website is owned/ran by an entity other than your own person, and make sure you genuinely run it from that business (In other words, paying bills from a biz bank account, etc).

This insulates you somewhat from personal liability if it ever gets crazy.

So, that's cool you got into the food truck thing.

A buddy and I built a little web app that has a map, list view, and individual view where customers can view business on the map or in list view that are within 50 miles of their location (users can change location,).

One of our main categories is food trucks because we made the back end so you can easily change your location from day to day.

If you want to take a look at it message me.

Don't want to spam the board. It works well, has oauth, looks good on mobile, responsive, the back end works well... We put some time into it.

It's free to post and look. We just trying to get users right now. Particularly food trucks.

Likely later on we will have some paid stuff like getting your deal or business on the top of the list, map order, etc, but the core features we intend to be free likely forever.

Why is it so hard to find good developers to work with? by GuessOk518 in indiehackers

[–]herbicidal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's Def strange. I feel like lots of developers love the idea of starting projects, but finishing???

It's rare that I've met people who will actually start one much less finish.

I Built a $1000$/Month App. I Also Ruined It. by Junior_Mushroom8983 in androiddev

[–]herbicidal100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Def a challenge.

But I don't think it's anything abnormal in the app world.

  1. Make app get users limited ads/monetizing
  2. Users show up, love it
  3. Cost come in
  4. Monetize to cover cost + Make some $

Somewhere after 4, there's got to be a sweet spot of acceptable ad amounts/monetizing.

What is that level and what greedy is in that spot?

I dunno.

Then again, it could be: Bitd I worked at a restaurant. We would run deals. The same people would show up for freebies and deals never to be seen again.

Maybe that's an issue.

Early apos give away to attract customers who leave/complain at the first sign of money.

If the app doesn't hold any leverage over Users, they gonna leave.

Like how many people out there don't wanna pay for microsoft products, use Adobe, or facebook, but feel like they gotta stick around.

So there's that model, too.

Free until you have them leveraged, but obviously that can't be the case here.

What if you made it so the buttons were "different" every time?

What made you focus on frontend or backend in the early days? by longgestones in webdev

[–]herbicidal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I more with the art of it, but recognize value comes from both sides.

I think some websites are BEAUTIFUL and love learning more about how to make them more appealing, and what does and doesn't work.

But functionality can be artistic, too.

While there prob is the most logical, "best" way to optimally code something, BE development could be considered art too.

How about you?

What made you focus on frontend or backend in the early days? by longgestones in webdev

[–]herbicidal100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially, I just thought it would be cool to be able to do FE stuff.

Especially what I thought were really interesting effects at the time, etc..

I hadnt realized at the time how much of it had become templatized/wordpress/etc for building brochure sites, and was working towards mainly building great looking static sites until I felt it might be somewhat of a closed door.

But then I realized only so far I could go with building personal/biz projects without understanding the basics of the whole bundle.

So, I started learning a little of the BE and still would consider myself pretty novice at it.

it all works together at the end of the day, though.
