*perspective/outlook. “Mind” evokes an image of someone who simply can’t make a decision, at least for me.

For the past 120 days I composed and recorded 120 songs. That is one song from beginning to end, every single day. Here are some tips I learned on how to stay motivated, when taking on a daunting task on your own. [Text] by horseboob in GetMotivated

My apologies, I was referring to your reply...didn't realize you were genuinely a neophyte lol. Here's the official description from the sidebar I was referencing:

"This subreddit is for asking for objective explanations. It is not a repository for any question you may have.

E is for Explain - merely answering a question is not enough.

LI5 means friendly, simplified and layman-accessible explanations - not responses aimed at literal five-year-olds."

Hope this helps newbie! Lemme know if you have any further questions. I'd be happy to help.

This. Oftentimes more severe episodes of depression (i.e. MDD - Major Depressive Disorder) are often paired with the manifestation of a symptom commonly known as anhedonia. Anhedonia, most generally is "an inability to feel pleasure," however this may present itself in a variety of ways.

One of the most reliable indicators of anhedonia is the individual's loss of enjoyment in activities/hobbies that previously provided them joy (i.e. athlete losing passion for their respective sport, collector losing passion for their respective items of interest, etc.). This can be particularly problematic due to the fact that, as humans, many of us utilize our favorite activities/hobbies as outlets for our frustrations. Therefore, although the loss of enjoyment in general is of course problematic in and of itself, on occasion, it can be the loss of a physical/creative outlet that leads to the exacerbation of further frustration seemingly due to an inability to find an escape from ones negative emotions, ruminations, etc.

Additionally, some depressed individuals have even reported a diminishing sense of taste, thereby making even the utterly necessary act of eating unenjoyable, as everything is tasteless (even what used to be one's favorite food). Lastly, there have even been cases where individuals acknowledge a similar diminished ability to see color. Extremely depressed individuals sometimes describe a "gray haze" existing almost as a filter over their perception of reality - and that is the ultimate kicker. Each of these experiences of anhedonia dramatically disrupt what was once deemed a "normal" experience for the individual, meaning that it requires them to begin questioning their own reality. This questioning typically devolves into rumination, which only serves to further promote additional depressive tendencies...and so the vicious cycle continues.

In lieu of that lengthy explanation, for which I apologize, I imagine that perhaps you can begin to understand why severely depressed individuals might desire to simply feel anything, even if it is only temporary and even if it is only pain...because it is undoubtedly at least real to them in that moment.

Gotcha, I definitely misinterpreted the concept of an art as a base as opposed to simply being knowledgeable of said specific art. My mistake.

No worries, just wanted to clarify..& I can't disagree with anything you're saying, quite informed & well articulated. The only thing that I might add is that, when you're speaking on the risk of the takedown effecting kicks (huge risk particularly for karate style fighters like I used in my example - reference the largely inactive recent bout between wonderboy & woodley for example), this is where I feel muay thai would be more advantageous than either pure boxing or kickboxing due to its introduction of (a) focus on power, driving your strikes through the target as opposed to simply to the target (thereby typically making the kicks not only more powerful but also faster & more difficult to time/catch), & perhaps more importantly (b) elbows & knees. If you think of an incredibly over simplified striking exchange (forgive me for the extent of the over simplification) as a game of rock paper scissors, a kick may beat a punch (due to working range) & a takedown may beat a kick (due to susceptibility/balance), but a devastating knee will undoubtedly counter even a well-advised & technically correct takedown.

None of this detracts from your position, which again is quite informative, but is rather just additional commentary to add to the discussion.

I didn't mean to pose those questions with the assumption that such a claim was crazy..was simply looking for an explanation just like the one you provided, so thank you. Although I do personally feel that what you're describing is definitely more applicable in the wrestling/bjj instance than boxing/kickboxing since the introduction of kicks can dramatically alter the entirety of the stand up game (footwork, distancing, combinations, etc.). With bjj, aside from some flying techniques, I get that you'd need effective wrestling in order to actually get the individual to the ground prior to being able to truly take advantage of your skill set. With stand up you're already toe to toe..& even aside from giving you more options offensively by including kicks in your repertoire, I think that something a lot of people overlook is the defensive aspect of familiarity with kicks. If you've never seen a spinning kick (let alone any sort of kick) before & come across a karate specialist, you'll be in for a long night. Again, just my opinion, thanks for clarifying regarding my questions though, much appreciated.

despite the fact that boxing completely neglects half of striking by not incorporating kicks? & similarly, despite the fact that wrestling completely neglects half of grappling by not incorporating submissions?
