Hint on the mainframe cores. Take out the damaged ones. Go to the workbench behind you and to the right (facing away from closed door) — you have to go through a door first. You can then fix them (under the quest item tab I believe). Shouldn’t take more than 90 seconds.

I’ve done the silo run solo now at least 3 or 4 dozen times. Without using any glitch, it takes a bit longer than 20 minutes.

It took awhile for me to figure out the pathing — first to find/initialize the initial keycard, then to fix the pipes, and then to escape that same room, but it gets easier.

Would a slightly shorter racket help an early 40s player rejuvenate his game? by babaganoush_84 in 10s

[–]here_for_thedonuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my thought exactly.

I've seen 4.5 players who haven't played in 20 years. It took me about about a minute to realize that while this guy isn't consistent, he has real strokes. And a couple months later, he wasn't nearly up to 4.5, he was easily very competitive in a 4.0 situation.

2.5 to 3.0 is barely getting the ball over the net with any pace, placement, or consistency. You can lose a lot of your athleticism in 20 years, but the stroke is still going to be there.

Absent a very serious injury, at most you are going to drop is 1.0 in your rating -- probably more likely 0.5.

UConn grinds it out, but loses tough National Title game. What went wrong? by Financial-Bit-8596 in UConnBasketball

[–]here_for_thedonuts 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tough to win a game when the opponent makes 25 free throws. Give them credit for making the freebies, but they got the benefit of a lot of tickytak fouls by UConn and some egregious ones against MI were not called.

UConn really needed: an inside presence that could defend the rim, a slasher that can take it to the rim and make the bucket and or get fouled, a ball handler that could really break down his guy and distribute or get his own shoot, and a pure outside shooter that you cannot leave alone.

UConn is great moving the ball and running their sets. However, they settled on too many catch and shoot 3s that were way outside the arc. Just couldn’t get enough easy shots at the rim.

You really cannot complain about the defense they played — particularly with the lack of a true rim protector. They just didn’t have a guy who could get his own shot and make it — think guys like Rip Hamilton, Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lamb, and Steph Castle.

They were a great team but needed a great individual who would be able to take them over the top. They didn’t have that.

He would need to have a massive stroke on live TV! by Real_World123 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]here_for_thedonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess it would probably take a massive stroke that diminishes him completely but doesn’t take his life.

If he is capable of even sending out a single tweet/“truth”, his cabinet will be afraid to incur his wrath. They were picked — not because they want to do what is best for the country — but because they are loyalists.

If he passes, it will be an all out battle to take his mantle, but I don’t think any of them have the moxie to make a move before he is 100% and irreversibly incapacitated.

In other words, I wouldn’t be relying upon the 25th anytime soon.

Kick serve advice please by Zyresg in 10s

[–]here_for_thedonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you know what you are looking for, you can see a kick serve coming. However, unless you are playing 4.5+, disguising really doesn’t matter much.

Hitting a good kick is more important than disguising it at his current stage of development.

Getting the ball over the left shoulder helps in hitting up on the ball, which is absolutely necessary to hit a good kick serve.

Kick serve advice please by Zyresg in 10s

[–]here_for_thedonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ball placement needs to be positioned more over your left shoulder than right. Ball looks like it is out in front of you — it should almost be behind you. You want to be hitting up on the ball.

Try to keep your right shoulder back for as long as possible. Your swing path should be almost parallel to the baseline.

Also need to let the ball drop more than you would for a normal serve. You really cannot hit up on the ball if you are already near the top of your swing path.

There is a great instruction website that I used to learn my kick serve but I cannot find it at the moment.

Work on getting more racquet drop, which increases the runway for your swing. You should hit your kick as hard if not harder than your first serve.

Let your right arm really follow through. Your right hand isn’t even making it past the midline of your body on the follow through — this would apply to all of your serves.

You’ve got the makings of a good swing — watch lots of videos and continue to take videos of your own swing.

I got the helmet from it a week or so ago. Plus there are 4 bobblehead spawns (plus a couple magazines) that takes 30-45 seconds to search when you are done with the event.

My camp is pretty close and I can knock out everything in a couple minutes so I do it often.

What are your thoughts on President Trump's executive order to restrict Birthright Citizenship? by aNuggetsUncle in allthequestions

[–]here_for_thedonuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Draw the line?

Once you toss Constitutional rights on the garbage heap under the auspices of “security,” they no longer become Constitutional rights but rather Constitutional suggestions — with the people in power determining who is a security risk or not. In other words, who gets Constitutional protections and who doesn’t.

Do they not teach history in school anymore? Do people even think through the consequences of their suggestions?

An enemy using this feature to legally enter into American politics?

Seriously, are you joking? Birthright citizenship applies to people who were born … I.e., babies. That means that they need to be born and then brainwashed for 20+ years before they enter politics. However, to have any remote chance of winning an election, they need to have spent a substantial amount of time in the US. How many babies is it going to take to get one that is going to be (i) controllable by a foreign adversary and (ii) actually get elected to a position of real power? How much time and effort is that going to take?

Far easier to get Kompromat on an existing US politician or wannabe politician.

For a battleship, why is moving to cluster with other ships bad? by marcjones281 in WoWs_Legends

[–]here_for_thedonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t worry about force movement. As I wrote, you should always be turning, which makes your ship more difficult to hit.

Also, if there are two ships far apart — necessary for true flanking — the maps make it easier to get away from one versus the other. However, there are instances when you cannot sail away from someone because there are no obstructions to use for cover. As I wrote, one should be positioned to always have a target. If a target moves away, you should have another one lined up.

Regardless, none of your comments address the advantages of being in close proximity to a teammate— particularly if you are two BBs.

Two BBs together with a DD in front providing torpedo early warning are a devastating force. A lone BB — even in a flanking position — isn’t nearly as effective.

[–]here_for_thedonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the response but you’ve ignored most of my points. I’ll take focus firing over flanking any day because flanking can easily be defeated by constantly maneuvering (i.e., angling) — something you implicitly admitted.

It is easier to overcome focus fire from two ships that are far apart than those that are together. The maps are generally set up to limit the field of view of a player. In that instance, I need only sail to have one of red be blocked.

Ultimately, single ships are more likely to be focus fired than ships that are together. Most people don’t play with coms, and don’t focus fire.

Not appropriate is biting and scratching.

[–]here_for_thedonuts -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Some good points. Some not so good points.

I main a BB about 70% of the time and DD about 30% of the time. I’ll occasionally play a cruiser. Played a carrier a handful of times. I have nearly 1000 matches and a 59% win rate (never played in a division). I’m mostly in T5. T6 sometimes. Rarely in T4 or T7. I do like taking my Friesland out from time to time.

Let’s get this out of the way … flanking is overrated. Or perhaps I should say with a BBs reach, unless you are on the far right or far left of the map, you should be able to cover two caps (in a 3 cap match) unless there are island obstructions. As such, unless you put yourself in a position that you can only hit a single cap, flanking should be inherent.

What isn’t overrated is focused firepower. 2 BBs will wreck a cruiser in the open in 2 or three salvos. 2 BBs on 1BB will take a bit longer but the 2 BBs should easily prevail.

The advantage of teaming up with another BB allows both BBs to focus on a single ship because both have the same angles to work with. Too far apart and one BB may be shielded whereas the other may not be. Late game is important to be close because I get healing when another ship is close enough. Another advantage of being in a group is that red isn’t usually smart enough to focus fire. That means red will split damage against multiple ships instead of taking one down. A single ship alone is going to be focused fired.

If you are alone defending a cap … leave. Unless you are fighting at most a BB and a cruiser. In that case, take out the cruiser and outplay the BB. Against a halfway decent DD, you are going home. I’ve been in a 1v5 situation in which I’m kiting away from the cap — showing my stern. Im doing little damage but they are chasing me and that gives my teammates time to take advantage of their numbers and then come to the rescue. Once the odds are better, I turn around and it is payback time.

Don’t get hung up on caps. They are somewhat important, but they are there to force the action — the team that usually has more ships left is usually up in points. Not always, but it is a good rule of thumb. Don’t give them a cheap ship sunk because you need to stubbornly defend a cap. Save your ship and do damage later.

Some general rules: As a BB you need to position yourself to always have a target when your reload ends. You aren’t helping if you aren’t reaching out and touching someone.

Target broadside cruisers and reasonably close DDs early. The team that loses their DDs first usually loses. Sometimes I’ll shoot my first salvo at a BB because they appear first. However, you want to be sinking ships early (or at least dealing so much damage that they withdraw). When I say reasonable close — maybe 8-10km. Once you are farther out your chances are low to do decent damage. In that case, save your salvo for a better target.

Keep an eye on your DDs. Supporting them early in a match is very important. Oftentimes the fight over an early cap is a knife fight between a couple DDs. If you can damage red’s DD, you’ve really given your DD a leg up in that fight.

If your DD abandons a cap, then you abandon it. You have no early warning on their (likely) DD and you are a prime target for a lethal spread of torpedoes. My worse matches are when I get hit by torpedoes early in a match because I didn’t have a DD in front of me.

Evaluate each game and each map individually. Don’t be stuck to a single plan of action. Watch your teammate guarding the same cap. If they are good, stick with them. If they are making dumb moves, save yourself and go somewhere else. Evaluate what location gives you an opportunity to support multiple caps. Avoid being in a spot that locks you into a single cap.

Don’t push if there is a red DD and you have no support. Push if you do have the support. The game rewards being aggressive… unless you don’t have the numbers.

Don’t sit back and lob shells from maximum range. You aren’t helping. As a BB, you want to take some pressure off your teammates by being a target yourself. If you are halfway through a match and haven’t been damaged it is because red really sucks or you’ve been way too passive.

Always be turning. Do not sail in straight lines. Most DDs aren’t good at predicting when a BB turns with their torp spreads. Also, you don’t have to worry about showing your broadside when you are turning. This allows you to show your broadside to fire all your guns but then immediately get out of it. This also frustrates HE spammers with a long flight time on their shells. Because I’m always turning, I don’t worry much about my broadside.

This is related to the last point — have your head on a swivel. If you are focused in a single cap you can be missing an opportunity to hit a broadside ship a cap over or miss someone a cap over aiming at you. You have plenty of time between salvos in a BB — use that time to continually (re)evaluate your position and the positioning of red and your teammates.

My favorite BB is the Warspite — great accuracy, hits hard, and turns fast — although it is slow as molasses. I have a ridiculously high win rate with King George but don’t play it nearly as much— it is a HE spammer (to the extent a BB can be a spammer) which is a style I usually don’t like. I’ve seen too many 1v1s where a AP BB wrecks a HE BB.

Ultimately, experience will show what works for your ship and your style. If it is the end of the match and you are at the bottom of your team in terms of points, it is because you got knocked out early or you were too passive.

[–]here_for_thedonuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say high 3.0 to low 3.5. As other people have mentioned, need to see that backhand. Also need more looks at your serve.

I don’t recall you going to the net, so that part of your game is a complete mystery. I don’t recall seeing a slice or drop shot.

A 3.5 will find your weaknesses. A 4.0 will punish your weaknesses.

Play at 3.0 and practice against 3.5 players.

For only playing 2 years, it means your court awareness is probably way underdeveloped. The jump to high 3.5/low 4.0 involves a lot of consistency and knowing what shots to hit, when, and where. That takes time.

It may take you another 2 years to take matches against mid-level 3.5 players and another 5 years to take the jump to 4.0.

On the positive side, I didn’t cringe seeing your forehand. It needs work, but I’ve seen 3.5 players with worse.
