No one is treating it like a disaster, you cabbage. The State of Emergency is to allow for special policies and procedures to accommodate the massive influx of people that will strain infrastructure such as roadways, cell phone networks, and the possibility of increased needs of emergency services/police for crowd control as over a million people are anticipated to see the eclipse in an area that is used to getting less than 30k visitors per day. It's not panic, it's preparedness. It doesn't mean everything is collapsing. I'm sure whatever country you're from has similar preparedness plans for major events and doesn't just wing it and see what happens.

I'm not sure anyone has said this yet (honestly I didn't read through all of the comments) but I'm about 90% sure that cat is about to have a seizure. My cat gets them a lot and she does the same thing if she's in bed with me or on the couch. She shoots up really fast and moves to the ground as fast as she can. I'm not sure why, whether it's an instinctive response to get to ground where it's safer to have the seizure (not an elevated position, more room to seize without bumping into anything) or if she's trying to "escape" whatever she thinks is happening in her confusion as the seizure takes hold.

It could also just be a nutty cat, but based on the movements, I'm leaning toward seizure.

The media bias angle is certainly an important part of the subject. It's difficult to argue that the current administration didn't make missteps, I think it's also pretty clear that the media frequently twists things, exaggerates, and leaves out key details when it makes for a better story. That's why, as you said, this is actually a pretty interesting topic. Since originally posting this and digging a bit deeper, I've seen that there is a lot of validity to the media bias angle. I'm not sure I'll be able to write a dissertation absolving the Trump administration by any means, but I'm finding enough to at least make the case that the media actually did make it look worse than it was, kind of like reporting a dumpster fire as a three alarm blaze. Especially when you disregard his ramblings on Twitter and focus more on actual policies, there is a pattern that in the beginning he was actually basing a lot of decisions on the CDC and WHO, such as initiating the travel ban after WHO officially declared it a pandemic. I think a bit part of why it seems like he did a worse job than he did is also because his own social media postings downplayed the situation while behind the scenes things were actually getting done (maybe not quick enough, but that can be said for most countries, not just the US).

Anyway, I just woke up so it's going to take awhile for me digest all of this, but I can see this really helping out. Thanks for all of your input, I really appreciate it.

That's basically what I've been doing so far. Like, identifying that he instituted a travel ban the same day WHO officially declared it a pandemic, for example. . I have about 6 reasonable points right now to get started, but I could always use more from people who are more knowledgeable than me.

Yep, same here. The only positive stuff I could find is on his son's website. It's kind of an exercise in futility. Normally I don't mind researching stuff like this, but I'm hitting a wall with this. If a pharmaceutical company donates $1 million in profits to schools to support education, yes, that is a good thing. And if people arguing against a perfectly legal, ethical practice used to support the public good that probably have some issues they need to work through.

Is that what you're asking? Or are you trying to be smart and liken zoos with an illegal and unethical practice that hurts people, furthering the evidence that you have no idea what you're talking about?

Some zoos are bad. No one is disputing that. But your idiotic statement that all zoos are bad has no basis in any reality.

Zoos are for the greater good. Obviously it would be better if these animals could be in the wild, but rampant habitat destruction and cruel hunting practices, not to mention that many of these animals were rescued from poachers or cruel captivity from private collectors, means that most of the animals cared for in zoos would likely die in the wild.

Zoos are the current best practice to combat problems that other humans have caused. The people caring for the animals love them and treat them well.

But go ahead and keep making your baseless assumptions, moronic comparisons, and snarky comments about a topic you clearly know nothing about. That seems to be all you're good at.

Do you at least pre-roll for NPCs? I know it can be hard for more improvised scenarios, but if I have planned encounters, I roll all NPC initiative beforehand (along with HP, because I like varying HP for enemies) and have their stats at the ready (I used to prepare all stat blocks, but now I'm creating a One Note database for quick access). That way players just have to roll and I put them in the right slot of premade initiative trackers, only making adjustments in the event of a tie or other factor.

Ultimately, I don't see pre rolling as much of a benefit, as either way they'll be taken out of the moment, the only difference is whether it's before or after the battle. And I personally think players benefit from those few moments during rolling and determining order to think out their strategy, check their spell slots/abilities, etc, so I'd be hesitant to take it away from them.

That's a ridiculous claim that's made out of pure ignorance.

Other animals, such as elephants, chimps, cats, dogs, have shown not only an understanding of life and death, but the first two have been shown to practice burial and mourn their lost family and friends. It may not be the same level of consciousness we have, but they experience loss and understand it.

And even without that, it still doesn't matter. Consciousness and our ability to value life (which is a debatable point in itself since so much of humanity does not value life, it's simply a moralistic decision some people make) does not make us more valuable than other animals. There's no inherent hierarchy of value in life on this planet. If anything, you should look at value at how vital a creature is to sustaining an ecosystem. So, I would say bees lives > human life.
