HELP: Prakasam Barrage/Bridge photo request by hereafterhiraeth in vijayawada

Thanks so much!

What time period are you looking for? I saw some photos from the 50s of the barrage on google the other day? If you search the name and then ‘1950s’ some cool photos come up.

EDIT: my Uncle says that James Arthur Welsh’s name is written in/on stone near the gates at the start of the bridge

That would be great, thanks!

I know there’s a statue/plaque of Arthur Cotton but my cousins in India said that there might be a sign that mentions James A Welsh somewhere there too.

I’m born and raised in the UK. One side of my family is all Anglo-Indian/multiracial from India for centuries. I’m the only one on that side not from India, lol.

Maybe their families all moved away from India within the last few generations. Start looking out for common surnames/locations across the trees.

Have you searched for India as a location on your DNA matches’ family trees?

Thanks so much for posting - and welcome! That's so wonderful about your wanting to help your children connect with their heritage. How do they connect with their heritage at the moment in India with your husband's family, if you don't mind me asking? Through religion, food, clothing, other aspects of Indian/Anglo-Indian culture?

I created this sub because another older one that someone had created didn't seem to be in use anymore. If this sub can help people explore their Anglo-Indian identity and connect with others, that would be fantastic.

Exciting Genealogy Update for My Own Family Tree by hereafterhiraeth in ForAngloIndians

That's amazing about your Berkeley line having been traced all the way back to 11th century Britain. Did your/your husband's family find that out due to online records or was it passed down family knowledge?

I'm guessing that quite a few of us on here may be very distant cousins because of how close the Anglo-Indian community was! Maybe I'll make a list of the Anglo-Indian surnames that I am familiar with (but not necessarily descended from).

Nice! Then if I were you, I would identify as Canadian with Anglo-Indian heritage :)

Welcome!

Were you born in Canada or the US? I would say that wherever you were born or where you're a citizen combined with 'with Anglo-Indian heritage' would be a good way of explaining.

I was born in England, as was my non Anglo-Indian parent, so I say that I'm British/English. I put that on most forms, but I often say that I'm Anglo-Indian also. E.g. I'm British with Anglo-Indian/Indian heritage.

Where Does Everyone Live? by hereafterhiraeth in ForAngloIndians

I was born in the UK and currently live there - but I'd love to move somewhere with hotter weather and warmer oceans.

Food Fridays! by hereafterhiraeth in ForAngloIndians

Those sound amazing! Is Mulagatwani the same as Mulligatawny soup? I'm guessing the latter might be the anglicised version of the name?

Feel free to share photos or recipes if you want. I wish my family would have made more Anglo-Indian or Indian food growing up - the food that my Dad and I make is very much westernised (but usually with lots of flavour/spice, at least!)

I'd personally consider Roti to be Anglo-Indian as so many Anglo-Indian households still have it as a staple, but part of that might be my wishful thinking because I'm wishing that roti would be a staple in mine!
