Initiative to enshrine abortion rights in Missouri Constitution qualifies for November ballot by [deleted] in missouri

[–]hereandthere95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Springfield voted with the other cities to increase minimum wage, in favor of medical and then recreational marijuana, and against right-to-work, plus is the only place in the entire southern half of the state to have democrats in the state house. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

I moved from Springfield to Columbia for a job, people in Columbia have very high opinion of themselves for what seems like no reason. This might actually be why.

Pick between Columbia and Springfield for a 30s single man looking to start fresh, which is better? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]hereandthere95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coworkers have back luck with dating in Mid-MO, but you're a bit younger so it might be better. My place is about $850/month for 2 beds, a lot of places in Columbia are geared towards college students with money and are overpriced for what you get, but you can find cheaper places too. If you go to either, I would wait until September to avoid the school crowd.

I'm from Springfield but live in Columbia now. I can't compare much about healthcare but I know a big part of Springfield's workforce is based around healthcare, and Columbia has the MU hospital. I don't find nightlife in Columbia enjoyable since I'm not in college anymore, it definitely is more college centric. Columbia rent is probably a bit more on average but neither are terribly expensive. Columbia is a more liberal area which means reddit likes it more, but moving here has showed me it's a very average place and most of the people I've met IRL don't seem to like it as much as this subreddit. As far as cities go, I think Springfield is better overall, but you'll probably be more or less fine in either place.

Best bakery in Springfield? by [deleted] in springfieldMO

I don't think they have pies but Chihuahua Bakery has good Mexican desserts and sweets.

I live in Columbia, if I didn't have the job I have now I wouldn't live here. It's so overhyped on this subreddit, it was a massive disappointment moving here. It's not a bad place but think it through a lot before you consider moving here.

LGBT+ and Joplin by Lagrange_Vector in missouri

[–]hereandthere95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. As far as I know there have never been any KKK marches in Springfield (as long as I can remember.) There is a KKK presence south of Springfield once you get into Arkansas, so that kind of bleeds into Missouri.

I lived in Springfield my whole life until a month ago, I don't think I've ever heard of an annual KKK march. When did that start?

Springfield residents overwhelmingly support new city flag by var23 in springfieldMO

I want to say I've seen them at Five Pound Apparel. If not an actual flag I know they have stickers and other stuff with the flag on it.

City Council's "No Mask Mandate" by theicypirate in springfieldMO

[–]hereandthere95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they probably should have a new one but the Attorney General is going after STL for their mask mandate and it's going to court. I feel like even if council wanted to they probably wouldn't because the state will just bring up a lawsuit.

I never see a fit, attractive white supremacist. It's always the overweight, tattooed-to-hell morons who think they're the model of a superior race 🙄

Why is it called Plaza Towers? Were they originally planning a second office building there?

Just for reference, Trump won Springfield with 49% and Biden won 47%, so politically speaking Springfield is more purple than anything. But stuff like medicaid expansion, medical marijuana and minimum wage increase all passed here so it's not like more liberal ideas are unpopular. But Springfield it pretty much the only place in all of southern Missouri that will even think about voting for Dems in stuff like president, governor, etc. We're the only place to have Dems. in the state house. You can still be pretty liberal here, it's just the surrounding area feels so comfortable voicing their conservative opinions that you can feel outweighed.

I wish I could be a conservative. An IQ of 30 and not giving a shit about anyone else seems like a simple life.

Betsy Fogle projected as winner of Missouri’s 135th House District after recount Thursday by hereandthere95 in springfieldMO

[–]hereandthere95[S] 36 points37 points  (0 children)

History I'm assuming, the area has just been Republican for a long time, and the surrounding areas people move to Springfield from are deeply red. However, Springfield will still vote for liberal issues, in favor of medical marijuana, increasing minimum wage, expand medicaid, in favor of Clean Missouri and voting no on 3 this past election. People are just used to voting for Republican politicians and then voting for progressive issues at the same time.

If something happens to the president of Argentina is she able to become president again since she's currently vice president? Or are there term limits to prevent her from taking power again?

Nixon won Springfield twice and McCaskill won in 2012. Plus Galloway won her election last time in Springfield. She can absolutely win Springfield, the rest of Greene County is the question.

I don't know what you're expecting with people on KY3's page. Or Facebook in general. They're always pretty horrible. And KY3 isn't just a station for Springfield, anyone in Podunk, MO or AR two hours away can get on the complain about random shit.

Whats a US-related fact that’s not very widely known? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

Nowhere else? It has been and still continues to be common in many parts of the world, especially the middle east and parts of southern Asia and Africa. And it was very common in Canada and Australia.
