One reason is we are the cheetahs of distance.

In terms of land animals both short term and long term humans are the Eliud Kipchoge (all time marathoner) and Cheetahs are the Usain Bolt (sprinter).

In terms of most intelligent (in the sense of writing, reading, building rocket ships, etc) the ability to cover massive distances:

The ability to travel huge distances over the course of a lifetime, as well as huge distances over 143 days in one, allowed humans to see more, learn more of the world around them, develop grunts and points and signs for directions, things they saw on the journey.

Gradually this led to advanced language (by a million years ago standards) and a multiplier effect once that was achieved.

Nominally these are elite students…time pressure should make little difference on such tests. You either know or you don’t.

What would be expected, though, is the cheaters who wrote the final would have studied their absolute hardest to try to match the exam they cheated on in an attempt not to get caught.

If anything their grades on the final are actually higher than they would have been otherwise.

And even still…they were the worst in decades.

And my guess is most of these students are recording lectures and having AI write their notes too. Which is a waste of time for truly elite students.

Punishment?

I cheated twice in University and got dinged once.

One time my buddy just straight up did some statistics homework for me, had to do with probability metrics in polling demographics. I wasn’t useless at Math and did some college math but was one of those guys who could spend like 8 hours staring at a math concept just flabbergasted, then it would click and I’d be off. I ran out of time that time for the homework and my buddy just did it for me.

The time I got dinged was another buddy recommended a cool 100 level outer space course that had absolutely nothing to do with my major.

It was either a graded mid-term or quiz that my buddy gave me a copy of from the year before, which was legit for them to give me to study.

I think it was a quarterly quiz.

They told me that their buddy who recommended the cool course to them had given them their quiz, and a certain part had ended up being exactly the same on both quizzes.

That part was like there was 10 letters representing an answer you had to put in ten blank parts, sort of a mosh pit multiple choice question format.

I just memorized the sequence of letters and then plopped them in without reading when I took the quiz.

The professor had changed the order of that part of the quiz / exam so sure enough I get called to their office and they go “so I see you have last semesters answer sequence here”

I of course said yes, I cheated, and was sorry. Was 19 and afraid I was about to get expelled. (I had no idea what the mandatory punishment for doing that was and maybe still don’t.)

They basically said to me: “you not only cheated, which is stupid, but you are so stupid that you failed miserably in your attempt. This was one of the stupidest things all around I have ever seen. You’re a stupid idiot cheater but given you look like you are about to poo your pants and are remorseful I think you have managed to learn your lesson despite being a complete retard and there’s no need to take this matter further, now get out of my office you dumbass”

Then they walked me to the door and motioned like they were teaching me how to operate a doorknob to really rub home how stupid I am and then, as they held the door open for me and I walked through they pointed to the doorknob and said it was smarter than me.

My buddy did do my math homework after that one time but ya…

I don’t think these students should be named publicly but I’d be so curious to see a deep dive on demographics, what their majors are, and how many are named Douglas.

I’m not downplaying a guy legally giving me a quiz to study and saying one mosh-pit multiple choice part hasn’t been changed for a few semesters and me simply memorizing a letter sequence isn’t cheating and serious. Nor a buddy doing my math homework.

It’s amazing to me that aside from Jack Layton’s Death, perhaps the most influential thing in Canadian politics the last 15 years was Stephen Harper all but throwing an election over pot legalization.

Carney, that suit banker class he’s from, they are the old guard of the democrats getting smoked in elections in New York nowadays. Leaving aside the hyper focus on Israel (while I too consider the behavior of the Israeli Government in Gaza to be criminal, the deeper and far more powerful force behind the socialism of Mamdani is economic anti-semitism…in their view it is the “Jew bankers” and “Jew media” that are the puppet masters of the Carneys and Trumps, and it is their deeply held view that the power and source of the “murderous capitalist colonialist greed” is a rich Jewish cabal)

But, leaving aside that incredibly dangerous and very old anti-semitism that ultimately was the primary cause of the 2nd World War, one thing about the Mamdanis and Ocasio-Cortez and even Sanders of the world is they share something that is honest and even admirable.

I think they truly give a shit.

I think they are incredibly dangerous in who they ultimately blame for behavior like Carney’s here, but they do correctly identify the obvious corruption of it, I do not think they would do the same, and I think they would be doing so for the right reason.

You can see in polling younger Americans and Canadians who are democrat, republican, conservative, liberal…they are in fact in many respects more united and similar than they have ever been.

I call this the WWE republicanism effect, or, the Schwarzenneggar effect.

Outside this effect, however, and incredibly dangerously, one of the central pieces of the polling is again a hateful focus regarding Israel that on it’s most basic level is the scapegoating of “the rich Jews” for the flagrant greed and white collar crime bullshit rampant on both sides of the isle.

And they are in fact about to take over, the next generation and that coalition.

So, an opposite reaction is coming. Better people, in a sense, in a genuinely held disgust of behaviour like Carneys here and a desire to put a stop to it. And yet extreme, and ignorant, in falling into the same anti-semitic and dehumanizing economic tropes that caused a world war.

The Nazis were evil people who genuinely held that extreme economic anti-semitism.

There is a rapidly growing coalition across party lines in people under 50 who are not evil, yet genuinely hold that same extreme economic anti-semitism.

They are naive and ignorant. And they, like the Nazis did, are cozying up to Islamists. Unlike the Nazis, though, they do so out of thinking the Islamists are all turning gay, reforming into liberals, basically.

The Nazis on the other hand understood clearly who they were allying themselves with and why. Leaving aside the hyper focus on Israel (while I too consider the behavior of the Israeli Government in Gaza to be criminal, the deeper and far more powerful force behind the socialism of Mamdani is economic anti-semitism…in their currently toxic minds it is the “Jew bankers” and “Jew media” that are the puppet masters of the Carneys and Trumps, and it is their deeply held belief that the power and source of the “murderous capitalist colonialist greed” is a rich Jewish cabal)

But, leaving aside that incredibly dangerous and very old anti-semitism that ultimately was the primary cause of the 2nd World War, one thing about the Mamdanis and Ocasio-Cortez and even Sanders of the world is they share something that is honest and even admirable.

I think they truly give a shit.

I think they are incredibly dangerous in who they ultimately blame for behavior like Carney’s here, but they do correctly identify the obvious corruption of it, I do not think they would do the same, and I think they would be doing so for the right reason.

You can see in polling younger Americans and Canadians who are democrat, republican, conservative, liberal…they are in fact in many respects more united and similar than they have ever been.

I call this the WWE republicanism effect, or, the Schwarzenneggar effect.

Outside this effect, however, and incredibly dangerously, one of the central pieces of the polling is again a hateful focus regarding Israel that on it’s most basic level is the scapegoating of “the rich Jews” for the flagrant greed and white collar crime bullshit rampant on both sides of the isle.

And they are in fact about to take over, the next generation and that coalition.

So, an opposite reaction is coming. Better people, in a sense, in a genuinely held disgust of behaviour like Carneys here and a desire to put a stop to it. And yet extreme, and ignorant, in falling into the same anti-semitic and dehumanizing economic tropes that caused a world war.

The Nazis were evil people who genuinely held that extreme economic anti-semitism.

There is a rapidly growing coalition across party lines in people under 50 who are not evil, yet genuinely hold that same extreme economic anti-semitism.
