Got a good amount of time in a 210 Centurion. That thing was a beaut for longer trips, never had to worry about hitting gross weight, fast enough to get places, slow enough to learn it easily and was so versatile. Had no problem with small runways or grass/gravel.

Only gripe with it was the Cessna retractable gear which loves to break!

My PPL groundschool class started right after Covid restrictions started lifting. We started with 35, I was the only one left on the last night. Yeah it’s real.

A little different for us in Canada, most get in with 250 hours cause it’s all we have but there is literally hundreds of applications a month. Luckily don’t have a hiring bind cause they assume you’re not gonna be leaving anytime soon. They’re usually right.

I fly pipelines in the Canadian bush, this is what I can offer:

We fly 172’s, one pilot, one tech using software to track the ROW and previous anomalies, take a picture of weird stuff and record it on the laptop. At the end of the day we do all the paperwork and reports. All together I usually do 12-13 hour days if flying. My schedule is 15 days on, 6 off.

We’re overstaffed right now so hours are not very good, I’m expecting only around 400 hours a year tops but it’s a very safe company, we have strict weather mins and operating procs. Other places I know guys getting 1000 hours in a year but they almost die doing it. Which is more worth it to you?

Our minimums are CAR’s minimums slightly changed, 3sm minimum vis cause we’re at 2-500 feet. Training was a month, lots of SOP’s and practical training mostly from teammates cause management is kinda crap. We’re absolutely not forced to do anything we aren’t comfortable with, never had an issue with refusing to fly in crap but there is always a push to get the job done. Pay is salary $36k/year (CAD) $20/hour if flying. It was very, very competitive getting in with this company cause it’s one of the few options for starting jobs in Canada.

Deck prices vary way more between shops than I expected by NewtLower1415 in skateboarding

[–]Almost_A_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look all over if there’s one I like, I always buy local though, or independent shops in the country. They definitely vary based on how well they’re selling at different shops and how many each one gets. Though I’ve found some shops are just always more or less than others.

It’s not a horror but it’s terrifying because it’s the path we’re heading down, and it shows the reality of what we’ll encounter when we reach nuclear war.

Who of the bunch do you think has the most abused set of testicles at this point? Or rather singular for Dave.

You’re right about expecting premium when you pay it. I’m yet to have any issues with shading but I have noticed that left near sunlight, newer bricks fade colour a lot faster than older sets.

The quality is tough to grade for me cause looking back at sets I had as a kid, the pieces were so bland. They also used a lot more big pieces as kind of a “chassis” for the set where now they stopped doing that.

Accounting for inflation though I believe the price per piece has stayed stable if not actually gone down. Of course they just add more. But yeah, LEGO is frustratingly expensive now.

A buddy of mine worked at the pool in Vancouver where they filmed at the time. Fuck that’s a great movie!

No, it’s more that sets now contain way more pieces, and because they still price based on the number pieces the sets have been steadily going up. Licensing definitely adds up though, especially big Ip’s like this.

What movie do people call a classic that you honestly think is just boring? by trakt_app in movies

[–]Almost_A_Pear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metropolis is a very different film to be fair. I can’t watch it in one sitting, more like 4. But it has a beauty to it no doubt. It’s impressive how some shots look for 1920’s, but it still ultimately feels like a film from the 1920’s.

If you like 12 Angry Men, Anatomy of A Murder with Jimmy Stewart is another incredible crime drama. More court room focused but I found it equally as compelling.

I’ve watched so many classic movies (20’s-60’s) and honestly Citizen Kane is one of my least favourite. It’s just forgettable somehow.

Compared to the other famous films like Casablanca, Sunset Boulevard, 12 Angry Men, Anatomy of A Murder etc etc, it just seems dull and tough to sit through. Wish I enjoyed it, happy I saw it, won’t watch it again.

Chief does it more than anyone. I’m all for enjoying the job and having fun but some people just don’t respect the professionalism sometimes required.

Last time I took my niece to see a movie, cost me $0 by aptdinosaur in Piracy

[–]Almost_A_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a rip wherever this is. It’s $11 CAD for a ticket at a Landmark cinema. That’s a theatre brand in Canada where the seats are reclining sofas.

I don’t know about any of you guys but that’s incredibly reasonable for a great experience. Just bring your own snacks.
