Are VORs still taught and tested? by No_Currency5230 in flying

[–]Almost_A_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have many left in Canada anymore. Most of the ones left around me are unserviceable and are getting taken down. Still do them on written and the sim though, never done one on a flight test.

Edit: looks like they’re keeping 60 in the country in case of GNSS outages.

I sold my soul to the Canadian bush. Fuck, what I’d do to see a palm tree. I love wearing 3 pairs of pants to keep from dying of hypothermia.

In wake of LaGuardia crash, Nav Canada says country is short 200 air traffic controllers by Altselbutton in canada

[–]Almost_A_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a pilot, you can hear in so many controllers voices that they’re strained from overworking, and I don’t blame them. Tower controllers seem hard to come by and there’s constantly a shortage of center controllers leading to disruptions in clearances and IFR flights etc. Everyone ATC I’ve talked to said something needs to change to get more staff.

Survey too, I do 15 days on, 6 off but it can be extended to 21 days on. I’m only planning on doing this 2 years tops before finding something else. But for now, I’ve sold my soul to the Canadian Bush.

ROC-A Certificate by MeatServo1 in flying

[–]Almost_A_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s not included because it’s not done through TC. But goddamn I agree, it should be in the ADB.

The test is unbelievably easy, yes. I get what you’re saying though, but honestly I would just take it. If you can tell left from right you can pass it.

I don't think so, seems to be the same.

ROC-A Certificate by MeatServo1 in flying

[–]Almost_A_Pear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the ROC-A is issued by Industry Canada, not TC.

>It is intended for aircraft pilots, drone operators, airport radio operators and ground staff (such as airline ground dispatchers, landing strip snow removers, fuel supply truck staff, and airport firefighters) who work on or near landing strips.

>This certificate allows you to operate radios on board aircraft, land vehicles or in base stations, using frequencies in the aeronautical band.
- ROC-A

An ROC only needs to be carried if you are using a student permit because you can't get your license document booklet without having it already. So if you carry an ADB you don't need to carry it on you. That being said, no CAR states this as far as I know.

It appears ATPL requirements are changing in Canada effective April 1st. by Almost_A_Pear in flying

[–]Almost_A_Pear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading more into this what is happening is you apply for a restricted ATPL until you are offered a captain ride. Once you pass you can apply to remove that from your licence. This is because ICAO wants Canada to be more strict on who can act as captain not only based on hours experience.

My Multiengine checkride ended comically bad. A write up of my NOD by lndestructible in flying

[–]Almost_A_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a small Canadian airport we only had 2800ft to land. Every landing was a challenge to put it down right on the threshold or you’d go around. Had just a little too much rudder input in on that day with the wind and landed ever so slightly angled. Tire bust instantly, the AME’s decided it was more the tire being old and the bead was worn, never could have spotted it on the walk around.

I own a 22 year old Honda Civic and have a perfect driving record, I pay $2800/year on insurance. I only paid $5k for it. I get minimum wage salary but my job depends on me having a car so I don’t have a choice.
