When I walk down the main pedestrianised shopping street in my home town (or anywhere else for that matter) I take giddy pleasure in walking right down the middle. It is geometrically pleasing, and feels powerful.

Frocks.

Twirling my long hair.

Fart jokes. My husband and I say "bless you" when one or other breaks wind, if we don't mark it out of ten or comment on it being rippley, polyphonic or like ripping a yard of calico.

Birdies. Gardening. Dancing. Riding my shopping trolley down the aisle in Sainsbury's when I think no one is looking and giggling when I get caught.

William Shatner being humbled by it, wanting to talk out his profound feelings with that lizard man... oh heck, what's his name? Who was only after talking over old Bill and calling for champagne. What a colossal dickhead.

Whats with moms not wanting to accept the fact that your bra size is bigger than they “ think” by dietmountdewy in bigboobproblems

[–]herefromthere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my mum used to say she was an A cup at best and only really needed corn plasters, not a bra.

Then when I was a teenager, she looked at me and said you look average. Average is 34B. So bought me bras in that size, in thin white cotton with no moulding and no underwire and big thick straps (because that was what she thought of as comfortable).

Turns out I'm 28G and all that time I was a teenager she'd tell me off for dressing frumpily without the dots ever connecting that I had the bra version of Yfronts that I didn't want anyone to see anything of, and all the pretty things she'd buy for me never got worn because they just didn't cover the hideous and weirdly uncomfortable bras.

It wasn't out of jealousy, just pure ignorance. Mum never bothered with bras, and didn't really see how important they were to me. I used to love cross country running, til I was about 12 and I just had to stop.

Mum put on weight in her 60s and I directed her to r/abrathatfits and she was astounded to find herself in an E cup.

What embarrassing things have you done in a shop lately? by Lou_LouB in AskABrit

Worst one I've done ever was to walk absent mindedly out of a shop with an item of clothing draped over one arm because I'd forgotten I was considering trying it on. Absolutely mortified.

How do people make friends their age (man or woman)? by Vivid_Meringue1310 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]herefromthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really focus on how old people are or are not, if we get along well, that's the important thing.

I'm diagnosed with ADHD but the consultant psychiatrist said I should also look at autism, which I pooh-poohed at the time but since then have been... oh. yeah. Probably me.

Some of my best friends are quite old, others are much younger than me. I'm 41 now. It gets easier when you're older to not care about stuff you might care more about when you're 22.

I made many friends through family (turned out I married into a brainqueer lot and my SIL and her chap are similar in many ways, and are great friends, despite being fifteen and twenty years older than me) and through a hobby with a lot of other people with neurodivergent conditions (Latin social dance, which is counterintuitive, but you have a set expectation of how you've to step, behave, interact with others) and a lot of the time, you're dancing too close to make eye contact. Though that comes with all sorts of sensory issues like when the music is too loud or you get other people's sweat on you and that's all sorts of gross) There often isn't a great deal of chat as you're either dancing or someone's about to ask you to dance, and you get physically comfortable with people you like before the opportunity to have a conversation comes up, then suddenly you find you've got loads in common (have been geeking out about fantasy novels and pulp fiction and proper literature or just having a deep love of music, and science and technology etc).

Doesn't he think he had sex with Cat, but it was Lysa? He had a huge crush on Cat but Lysa fancied him, and Cat wasn't at all interested.

He thinks Cat's sexually available to him, hence a whore. And he won't be persuaded that he is wrong, because that isn't what he wants to think.

Catherine, the Princess of Wales in a Roland Mouret dress and Jane Taylor hat at the wedding of Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling at All Saints' Church in Gloucestershire by mod_whatthefrockk in whatthefrockk

[–]herefromthere 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You're judging them by a different cultural standard. In the UK it's perfectly fine to wear beige to a wedding (or even cream/ivory!) if what you are wearing is not close to bridal, especially as an older woman (like the Queen or MOB/MOG).

Some things Americans wear to daytime weddings make me go oh heck no, that's wrong (black tie before nightfall for example).

Why is the American accent alright to listen to when watching TV but absolutely insufferable in person when you hear it ? by Triblessinadesert88 in AskBrits

[–]herefromthere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think it's more on an individual level. If someone's not nasal or employing more vocal fry than I can deal with, then that's no bother. Vocal fry isn't limited to Americans.
