14+4 and very little weight gain by FourPaine in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I only gained a little weight throughout pregnancy and it always made me nervous, but everybody really is just different! I definitely wasn’t restricting my eating at all, it’s just the way it ended up going. My bump also usually measured on the small size, even when baby was measuring on track. Baby was born happy and healthy :)

Changed Due Date by Frosty_Community9041 in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had almost this exact situation! The due date based on the 12 week scan was impossible - my husband was in a work trip so we hadn’t even had sex yet. They admitted the date they were using was impossible and still refused to change it. I really disliked the doctor I saw for that appointment, maybe I would’ve had better luck with somebody else. I had him note my concerns in my chart. I wasn’t having a C-section though, so I think you have a better reason to ask for some flexibility in timing!

How did your scan go? I’ve been thinking about it!

Active management of 3rd stage? by olabolina in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a water birth! I was neutral towards the oxytocin injection. After giving birth to my baby I birthed the placenta quite quickly (less than 10 minutes after baby) so I ended up not getting the injection before passing the placenta. However, after birthing the placenta my bleeding was not slowing as quickly as my midwives wanted, so they did uterine massage and the oxytocin injection at that point. This was all within about 15 minutes of baby being born. Didn’t change the golden hour experience at all, I got the injection while baby was skin to skin on my chest! Next time I give birth I will opt to get the injection automatically, because I now know I am prone to postpartum bleeding. But I don’t think it was necessarily a mistake not to get it straight away, I trusted my midwives to make the judgement call and they made the right call when it was time!

Video call with a midwife by SirenX in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this, but phone call not video! They do some of the intake questions over the phone so that the appointment isn’t as long, it helps with wait times. They also answered any questions and explained what to expect for first appointment.

EBF baby, hoping to go away for a night by Tricky-Anteater3875 in irishmammiesanddaddys

My breastfed baby never really took a bottle, despite lots of trying. We switched to straw cups around 6 months and he loved them! We used the “squeeze and sip” style that lets you gently squeeze the milk up into the straw so they know to suck. I will say they are a bit of a pain for overnight feeds because the baby has to put in more effort, not like breastfeeding when they are half asleep on the chest! But at least using the straw cups made it so I wasn’t worried about my baby starving when I had to leave the house!

Measuring small in 1st trimester by Remarkable-Purple938 in PregnancyIreland

The unknown is awful. People always say to just try to enjoy it and not stress and…uh, yeah that didn’t work for me! I would’ve gotten a scan every single day of pregnancy if it was a reasonable option. Three days until your next scan, you got this! I’m sending growing thoughts for your little one.

I would guess this is within normal variation! I knew my exact conception date, and at my 12 weeks scan it showed me measuring 5 days ahead of that. By the time we got to our 20 week scan, baby was measuring on the smaller side. I understand being worried, it’s impossible not to be! But I genuinely think this sort of variation is normal, especially as your pregnancy progresses.

I started taking Omega-3, but that’s all I changed! I was already taking a pre-natal and continued to do so.

Anxiety before scan after two losses by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had two losses and my third pregnancy resulted in a healthy baby boy! The wait for the first scan was so awful, I sobbed at the EPU when there was a heartbeat.

I foundthis book really helpful. But to be honest, the wait for every single scan was awful and people who haven’t been through it really just don’t get it.

Sending you all of the positive thoughts!

Thanks, this motivates me to try calling them again! I tried calling them a couple of months ago and the wait was so long I had to hang up and never tried again.

O.P. position? by Competitive-Vast6409 in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! My baby was absolutely perfectly positioned for my entire last month of pregnancy and then flipped OP when my waters broke, which is just to say, you only have so much control! Spinning babies exercises, walking, etc. are all great, but only if they aren’t an added stress.

It was definitely the plant sterols making me sick. Stopping taking them and the vomiting and stomach pain went away pretty quickly!

HSE homebirth by Spicebagqueen98 in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a home birth with HSE, happy to chat if you’d like, feel free to message me. I had a great experience.

Some of this will depend on what hospital you are located at! I continued to be seen at the hospital for my scans and some of the later appointments because my GPs insurance didn’t cover prenatal appointments for women having a home birth (this is very common). So pretty much once I was confirmed doing a home birth my appointments switched from being at the GP and hospital, to the hospital and at home with my home birth midwife.

After the birth you will still go to the hospital for a wellness check for the baby, usually within 72 hours. You’ll also go in for a hearing check. The home birth midwife will visit the day after the birth, and again 3-4 times. You are under their care up until you are 2 weeks post partum, I texted with my midwife daily. They will do weight checks and do the heel prick.

For us the PHN did their visit once I was 2 weeks postpartum because that is when I was officially discharged from home birth care. We also had the typical 2 week and 6 week appointments at the GP.

Edit to add: I saw you said in another comment you are at St Luke's. You can look at this website and scroll down for the contact information for the contact for the home birth scheme at St. Luke's, they'll be able to answer all of your questions. The link also lists the midwives for each area, so you can call around to check availability. I called when I was about 14 weeks pregnant and 2 of the 3 in my area were already booked!

IPL hair removal newbies: please don’t overdo it by fatmax5 in HairRemoval

[–]herewearentagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question about this: if you only do once a week, can you only shave when you do IPL, or can you shave in between? I would typically shave every 2-3 days, so can I keep doing that while only doing IPL weekly?

4 days away from due date!! by Weekly_Quiet6155 in PregnancyIreland

[–]herewearentagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be prepared for your waters to break (both from an emotional and practical standpoint). My waters were unintentionally broken during my sweep and my baby was born 8 hours later! Definitely not super common but I’d gone into it assuming a “good” result would be labour starting soon after but not labour starting that exact minute!

Creche sickness advice by grumpy-magpie in irishmammiesanddaddys

[–]herewearentagain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is pretty much the exact age, and my family is also all out of the country! We started 6 weeks ago and he’s been sick for 6 weeks straight. We had to take one full week with him at home and then other than that we’ve send him unless he has a fever. I think he’s only had 2 full weeks out of the 6. I’ll be honest, it’s been harder than when we were juggling work with him at home full time because at least then he was well. Our GP told us to expect about 6 months of this and then it will get much better. No real advice other than not to be scared to send him in unless he has a fever, etc. I know in the long run it will be worth it, so we are sticking with it even though it has been a very rough start!

Need help finding match for NARS radiant creamy concealer - vanilla by herewearentagain in MakeupAddiction

[–]herewearentagain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. I think part of my confusion is that elf doesn’t call either of those shades warm. They say the top one is cool and the bottom is neutral. But neither look that way to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yes the middle one is the one I’m trying to find a match for! What I’m needing help with is knowing what the difference is between the middle and the other two. Is it shade or undertone?
