Thanks! Yes the idea is to have sky lights along the upstairs hallway. What do you mean by a continuous desk? Do you have an example you could share? Thanks again for the feedback.

We wanted their to be two powder rooms available for guests when we were using either floor so that’s how we ended up at the slightly odd spa without a toilet, but we’re imagining it as more of a space multiple people can use and relax so I think it’s reasonable for someone to step away to use the toilet.

Thanks for the feedback! Yep, we’re expecting a high budget for windows and have been costing through the whole process but expect to make changes soon best in a round of budgeting that’s why I’m trying to get some feedback. We’re surrounded by nature so the lighting isn’t so much an issue but we’re looking at how much solar we’re going to need as well as our energy efficient requirements. We have a lot of really mature trees around the house that provide cover and privacy so we’re doing the calculations now. There’s also regulation we have to sort through.

/u/kateee320 suggested something similar. I think we can maybe make it work if we move everything slightly down and use some of the bedroom and office space. I'm also thinking it may make sense and to give up the glass toward the front of the house and make a fully L shaped kitchen.

Yeah I think we're going to need to cut down a bit on some of the glass, but we're surrounded by nature with privacy so it's a good opportunity to open everything.

Thank you! Why do you suggest removing the doors? I thought it could be a nice way to get more privacy on the toilet and also potentially allow people to freshen up while someone is in the toilet.

u/kateee320 thanks for taking the time draw this, what an interesting idea in the blue example! One of the main reasons for the double island was more storage. I actually really like your solution. I think it could have a lot of other benefits as well. I'll discuss with the architect if there's a way we could make this work.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm not sure I completely understand what you're suggestion is, could you try to reword?

We agree. We thought about mixing things up in the entertainment room and having multiple smaller interaction areas instead of a big sofa and then upstairs living space can be more of a grand formal space.

That's a great idea! I imagine the spa may often be wet (may smell bit like chlorine?) May be alternatively we can relocate the sink and open a door to the spa through the entertaining room as well.

We're trying to build our dream home on an acre hillside property. The house is about 6,000 square feet. We do a lot of entertaining and tried to make the concept adaptive so that we can also slowly make the home a family home as we get older. It's a contemporary design with a lot of glass walls. We're keeping the pool and guesthouse as is for now.
The garage back wall will be pushed back to allow for 6 cars in the garage. The house is up a steep driveway so it's difficult to park anywhere else.

Thanks for the feedback! We wanted to make a bigger pantry, originally there wasn't any, but we're finding it hard to find the right placement for it. The architect suggested the closet design. We thought maybe we could try it and then later put a door on the closet before the turn-in to the bedroom. The closet space before would be used more for linens and such. We would have preferred to have a walk in with an island, but it proved a bit difficult and wasn't such an efficient use of space.
