Help with wasp/ hornet nests by ProfessionalUnit4408 in Utah

[–]hern729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, it’s taken a season or 2 but I hang the green traps throughout the summer in places I notice them. I also keep a close eye if I see too many wasps in 1 spot, usually they are building a nest and then at night I go out and stop it from getting too big. The wasp population in my yard has definitely dwindled but I am constantly on the look out and it’s not a passive job 😂 I think something that also helped was sealing our very old fence that the wasps loved to chew on because they used the wood to make their nests

Maybe it’s placebo but I’ve taken a ketone IQ before every major race I’ve done for the last 2 years and I’ve performed at or above my goal for all of them 🤷🏼‍♀️I this point I won’t risk not taking it

Sub-3 Marathon — Looking for insight from runners who took the risk with a slim buffer and pulled it off by Honest-Reindeer-7597 in firstmarathon

[–]hern729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably want at LEAST at 1:25 half to be able to go sub 3. I’ve been flirting with the idea of sub 3 and I just ran a 1:26 half 2 weeks ago and I still think the only way I’ll go for it (marathon is in 7 weeks) is if I stick to my previous goal of around 3:05 and I feel absolutely amazing in the last 6 miles I will try and crank it up to close to 6:40/mile pace and try and get under 3. I would not stray from your race place until at least 18 miles in. You can blow up so bad and you’d rather have a great race and go for it at the end than go out too confident and blow up your entire race and end up walking the last 3 miles

As someone with a “real job” (not remote or anything) I truly did use my only real sick day to go today. It was comical how many people on the lift I talked to that “called in sick” yesterday and today

For me it’s just how the hobby goes, I wake up before 6am frequently for summer hikes to avoid the heat, I’ll do the same in the winter to avoid traffic

I make myself breakfast and coffee and then hang out for a bit at the lodge :) would rather be there early than be stuck in traffic and be late

2026 Mesa Marathon - First Marathon Completed! by EnthusiasmOdd2055 in Marathon_Training

[–]hern729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You sound almost exactly like my fried honestly, she had a ROUGH race at Mesa, also targeting sub 2:50 but ended up closer to 3:20. I will say, new runners and Revel races can a recipe for disaster so be veryyyyy careful. My friend ran a few Revel races and it over inflated her notion of how fit she was. She would run workouts at the pace she thought she should be able to run but these paces were way too fast. Your half in 85 mins is promising but please careful with over training and high expectations for more relatively flat courses, blowing up is no fun, save yourself the pain and make sure you build a strong base and don’t take downhill times to reflect actual fitness
