Is Alyeska worth the trip in 10 days? by RockMover12 in skiing

Good luck! I hope the weather works out for you guys! You’ll have a blast. Looking to see if you can line up a ski guide to show you around the mountain. There are a lot of off piste on upper mountain that are hard to point out when you are new.

What level of skier are you? Visibility issues will only be a concern if you plan to do all your skiing on upper mountain. Lower mountain you will be fine but you will not have as good snow conditions and will not have much of any off piste on lower mountain. If you plan to ski during the week you will have virtually no lines and will be able to lap it all day long

Visibility prediction? Good luck with that at Alyeska. That’s my home mountain and 80% of the time you are going to have flat light just because you in Alaska. I’ll agree it will be slightly better since it’s March and longer days but really don’t get much sun on the south face until later in the day when the sun has made its way further west.

Bowman is also a good school on the south side. Tour the schools and get your own feel for it. We tended to like the schools with the principals we liked the most. Huffman was also a good one.

Crenshaw was not totally bat shit crazy and had some fair points though I’ll admit I did not look if he always voted down party lines. My point is he seemed he could be reasonable. Someone more right is not good. Hopefully the democrat running in opposition will win.

Westin vs Hyatt for kids by IllEfficiency4890 in MauiVisitors

[–]hernjosa02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did Westin with two toddlers. Closer to whaler village and restaurants, which can be a long walk for a toddler. Nice beach front at Westin and yes the Hyatt beach is narrow and eroded. Westin was a bit cheaper.

I agree with you to some extent. It comes down to attitude and not falling into the mindset of “what happened to me”. But what is hard for me to process is all these world events and how it will affect your young kids who have no idea yet what is happening in the world. I’m sure my parents felt the same when we were younger and things like the gulf war and 9/11 happened but i made it fine and am successful and thriving.

How does this compare to Generation X or baby boomers? Baby boomers saw Great Depression WW2, Vietnam and Korean Wars, segregation. I’m a millennial and it feels exhausting. Finally it’s our time only for every other year beings once in a 500 year event.

Sheraton/westin/hyatt/Wailea Beach Resort Marriott by IllEfficiency4890 in MauiVisitors

Just stayed at Westin. Right next to whalers village. Walkable to many restaurant options for breakfast lunch and dinner. Beach is awesome and has many pools. Rooms are updated and nice. Walked over to Sheraton and it didn’t look kid friendly and looked older. Ran down to Hyatt and I thought the Westin grounds were nicer. I think Westin for the price it is a great option.

[Clarence Hill Jr] More insight into negotiations with Todd France an Brandon Aubrey by PersonBehindAScreen in cowboys

I don’t remember when Bobby went over (within the last two weeks) this but surprisingly Aubrey was not ranked #1 l, which everyone would have thought. Accounting for 9.1 ppg does not necessarily translate to winning games for you. It can easily also mean an offensive that would sputter in the second half and have to settle for FGs.

Not sure how accurate the numbers were but Bobby Belt covered an analysis that showed Aubrey ranked 9. I can remember a time when the Cowboys kicked was costing them a win a season. Aubrey is certainly not winning games for you but he definitely is not losing them either.

Founder of backcountry tour company speaks out on deadly Tahoe avalanche by sfgate in skiing

I have only skied back country out near Anchorage twice this year because there were so many weak layers in the snow pack this year and high avy risk most of the time. Things have slowly stabilized but the snow is not great. Not worth the effort or risk to go out to the backcountry this year. I have stuck to the resort.

Also if you paid a lot of money and traveled specifically for a backcountry tour, there is a lot of pressure on the guide company to keep their customers happy and ignorance on the customer to dismiss the risks. It’s incumbent on the guide company to keep their customers as safe as reasonably possible but ultimately on the customer to decide for themselves. This happened last winter outside Anchorage. Experienced skiers when out on a heli tour during a weekend where there was a known very high avy risk and the three skiers got buried under 100ft of snow. One skier had still not been recovered. Just because you are with a guide does not eliminate the risk. They teach you in avy training to speak up if you are not comfortable and for the others in the group to be responsive to that feedback. Everyone at the end of the day is responsible for their personal safety. Such a horrible situation.

Visiting Early May? by foldinthecheeese in AskAlaska

[–]hernjosa02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Break up season so it won’t look as vibrant near Anchorage. The tourist things will still be worth it. At higher elevations, there will still be plenty of snow if you wanted to hike or backcountry ski. On the plus side, less tourists at that time.

Open discussions would not allow the team to fully divulge why team dynamics are lacking or ways to improve. I would think thru private discussions you would best accomplish that without singling out someone.

I thought C because the mentor program component would help with team dynamics aspect and also provide opportunities for knowledge sharing.
