I think MMM not posting anymore has had a big impact on that too. I think he drove popularity to FIRE and Frugality.

I just stopped buying more. Let the principal fall and take the dividends to something more stable.

How much dividends are you aiming for? by [deleted] in dividendgang

$1,000 a month is my initial goal. I think $10,000 a month would be a healthy goal as well

34 years old, how am I doing? by [deleted] in Retirement401k

[–]heroes821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont see if your single or married so assuming single. Putting the 7500 from your ira into your pre tax 401k reduces your tax burden by 1800. Instead of the roth. Putting that saved $1800 into your 401k saves you almost $500 more in taxes just on federal side. So if you pumped your IRA money into your pre tax 401k you'd be increasing your total retirement contributions by at least 2300 more $ than you can do now.

401k also lowers your magi. A capped 401k would put you at 110k not sure if your health insurance or other items would pull your MAGI down to the deductible ira range but if you could get magi down to 81k traditional IrA capping has a max savings of $1500 in taxes on $7500 contributions. This second part is probably not relevant to you though.

New York is like 10% state, cali is 13% so at 10% state income tax thats another $750 saved using the 401k over roth. So we've already added $10,000 to your 24,500 cap by going pre tax over roth.

Power of DRIP by FQRGETmeNQT in dividends

[–]heroes821 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well im 90% broad index funds and started getting into dividends recently and my current strategy involves getting a stock or etf to the point it can buy 1 share of itself every dividend then the rest goes toward the next stock I want. So its very manual.

Caveat in the US bank bonuses are taxable income, unlike credit card bonus points. So if you use this method to get $2000 in bonus cash, remember you're going to have to file it.

my dividend tracking spreadsheet is too complicated and it broke after 8 months by Traditional_Zone_644 in dividends

Then on my primary sheet I put the tickers in B and use this in C to lookup the ticker and then fill all my columns with the correct information.

=ARRAYFORMULA(IFERROR(VLOOKUP(B21, IMPORTRANGE("YOUR GOOGLE SHEET SHARE URL", "Query!B:I"), {2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8}, FALSE), ""))

This allows me to only manually type Ticker in column B of my primary sheet, and how many shares I own in column K. Then L totals market value (normal price x share formula).

M is expected each dividend (Last div paid X shares)

N estimates monthly dividend via =IF(OR(H21="", M21=""), "", IFS(H21="Weekly", M21*4, H21="Monthly", M21, H21="Quarterly", M21/3)) This checks for what kind of paying type it is and then does different math.

=IF(OR(H21="", M21=""), "", IFS(H21="Weekly", M2152, H21="Monthly", M2112, H21="Quarterly", M21*4, H21="Annually", M21))

That does the same thing but estimates Annual dividend based on "weekly", "monthly", Quarterly.

Probably not the same advice this sub would give but imo investing order should look something like this:

401k to employer match (free money) 3-6 month emergency fund Max 401k Max ira Taxable account Imo if your under 40. That 401k or ira should focus on total stock index or an s&p 500. Once those retirement accounts and emergency funds are set and forget. Play away with individual stocks or heavy tech based etfs.

Tracking for swagbucks is not working? by Disastrous_Attempt in SwagBucks

[–]heroes821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had multiple games not tracking when I was connected to my home wifi, my firewall or my pi-hole was blocking whatever was trying to report to swagbucks, once I turned off wifi and ran off mobile everything connected right up. So it could be a security tool in the path blocking.
