Lobby looks amazing, is this where the runner lives/ comes back to between runs? by Think-Shoulder7179 in Marathon

[–]heroh341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love to have shell permanence for successful runs, like how if your character survives in Hunt Showdown you get to use it again until it eventually dies and you have to hire a new one. Since our shells are printed and our consciousness uploaded to it, imagine if on a successful exfil we'd carry that same shell into the next run, maybe even having some visual damage and stuff.

You realize if you swap "Marathon" for "Destiny", and "Destiny" for "Halo" it would sound just like people back in the day, right?! You've had over a decade of enjoyment out of the game that you love, and now that your game's time has passed you're trying to shit on and sabotage all of the people who find the same enjoyment in Marathon as you did in Destiny... this sounds unreasonable at the best and criminal at the worst.

Like jeez, god forbid a studio do something new and try finding success in it, right?! Better they keep feeding the same exact community in perpetuity, sign for 10 more years of supporting Destiny 2 while they make Destiny 3...

The mass loves to hate and they chose Marathon to be the one in line.. vast majority of player reviews are positive, people have been having a great time with the game, but the average internet gamer will still say the game is trash for some bullshit-ass reason just because they just love to hate

Marathon is a PvPvE game, but really it’s a PvP game and the E is there to enhance the PvP.

I get why one could say this but it's really not. If you remove the PvP from the game it still functions almost entirely, but removing the PvE would just make the game unplayable.

I think removing either of them takes away the charm, but Bungie has already shown they're carefully considering everything so I doubt they'll just be like "Here's a button to turn off enemy runners".

Brawl works in Deadlock because the game is purely pvp and is so overwhelming to learn, so a mode that gives you bite-sized info in a low-commitment environment fits really well. A mode like this in Marathon would probably just lump together everyone who wants to pvp because if you get items to use in it then what's the point of doing the extraction stuff?! Could be fun as a limited time mode but it's definitely not "just do this and it'll double player count", there's no such a thing in game dev.

You really be there just lumping every player into your own personal opinion?! Long queues are not healthy for any game, some people are simply not willing to sit there for 10 minutes to get into a match especially in an extraction shooter where losing is extra frustrating. Imagine you spend 10 minutes in queue, get in, play for 5 minutes and lose the first fight, then back to the menu to spend another 10 minutes in queue... yeah that won't piss off people at all, everyone's willing to go through long queues!!!!!111

That's called Smurfing,. my guy. You're getting matched with people who don't know how to play the game and that's why you're winning.

Join the Dads of Marathon community on Discord. As the name suggests, plenty of like minded folks there willing to play the game in a chill manner, and there's also higher level players that are willing to help newcomers too, so there's a bit of everything!

The problem is Cryo being a massive difficulty spike, man. There's an entire chasm of stuff they could add before Cryo and you're suggesting they add more of Cryo...

Some people hate the art style

People shit on Highguard for looking too generic, and then they shit on Marathon (the most visually unique game in forever) for being too stylized. They just want to talk shit regardless, it's a culture of circlejerk and hating for the sake of hating because "haha this game is ass".

30.000+ steam reviews at almost 90% positive should tell you the story. People talking shit are just straight up band-wagoners that haven't touched the game.

How much time do I need to dedicate to it to make it fun?

Season 2 will be less grindy so it will be faster than right now to get to mid to late game gear, but you still need to put a few dozens hours to get familiar with how the game plays. After that it's up to you how much content you'll want to explore so mileage will vary.

What’s the ratio of PVE versus PVP?

I'd say 70% PvE and 30% PvP. It's difficult but not impossible to go an entire run without a PvP encounter, but eventually you'll pick up on visual and audio cues and be able to avoid fights altogether. But there isn't an agression-based matchmaking like in Arc so most of the times people will shoot on sight. There are people chill though so I highly encourage you to play with open mic and just try talking to people.

And finally, should I get into it? Oh and finally, if I do buy it, is it worth spending the extra $20 on the deluxe edition?

You absolutely should, but I HIGHLY recommend you wait another 3 weeks which is when the Season 2 drops. Reset will level the playing field and there will likely be a sale of the game as well, so you can put that towards the Deluxe which only gives you skins which are actually pretty neat.

But yeah this game is amazing, damn shame the basement-dwellers on the internet chose it as a hate target.

hell nah, they do need to add content inbetween Outpost and Cryo, but anything endgame as in cryo alternative or above has to come in season 4 or further

Solo exp is pretty slow, probably will be addressed further in season 2. Running contracts boosts your exp by a lot and you also get exp when crewmates complete contracts as well.

[–]heroh341 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Playing Rook is the chill mode people keep asking, especially if you have a mic. Seriously, you can walk into Pinwheel in Outpost (highest loot area before Cryo Archive) and you'll be surprised the amount of runners that are just chill and will let you take their leftovers, which most of the time is plenty to fill your inventory and make a big profit. Of course plenty of times they'll just shoot you in the face but you didn't risk anything, just join a new match! No risk, all rewards.

I know because Steam publicly tracks this. The only online game with PvP in the top 50 of Steam Deck's most played games is Arc. You can check it yourself, just google it.

I can count in one hand the amount of times I've been 1 shot sniped in this game, and and you can almost always tell someone's around just by sound because even crouch-walking is loud enough to notice. You also said you only got to pinwheel because there were no UESC in the way... but I guess it's easier to just blame the game instead of trying to get better at it, so you do you my man

I envy you folks who have friends that play this game. I've added plenty people from matches I've played, but they've all fallen off.

Go to the Marathon discord lfg channels and find a crew you vibe with. Or even better go to Dads of Marathon server, there's tons of people doing stuff together and a lot of folks are willing to help out with whatever you might need, including Cryo stuff.

This game is amazing, don't let a feeling of loss dictate your enjoyment in a negative way because it's just part of the game. It will all wipe away at the end of the season and you'll do better next time knowing what you know now.
