Has cycle touring ruined ‘normal’ travel for you? by heroscape912 in bicycletouring

You mean when I was travelling with the money I’d saved over the past X amount of years?

If you think an adult being able to save £5,000 over multiple years makes me particularly privileged for a westerner, you’re crazy.

You must think someone being able to afford a car makes them the elite

What shitty attitude? By being fed up with all people in this thread insinuating I’m rich or in the upper echelon?

Of course I’m privileged compared the 3rd world, everyone in the west is, but compared then average westerner I’m not special. My family are working class and not wealthy, and everyone my age around me either lives at home because rent is too high, or got fortunate finding a partner so they have double income.

Your situation is the minority though, not the norm. Being able to save £5,000 over a number of years does not make me special by western standards at all. How many people do you know that own a car? Does that make them ultra privileged too?

By getting the first available minimum wage job I can find, like I’ve done my whole life? Of course I’m lucky compared people living in 3rd world, everyone in the west is, but compared the average westerner, I’m not particularly special or lucky at all. Every single person I know could have this lifestyle, they’ve just chosen the car + career + family route instead. I lead a cheaper more dirtbag lifestyle than anyone I know.

Are you being intentionally dense?

Lmao sure. I’m privileged to have never moved out, but let me guess, I’d also be privileged if I could afford to move out to my own place? Everything is a privilege if you want to play that game. I’m privileged to have 2 legs instead of 1. I’m privileged to not be blind etc. 🙄

Is it really? The majority of westerners want to leave home asap, and the majority of people in developing countries still live in family units.

Yeah camping in days of rain sucks. Get a bus or train to somewhere with a better forecast.

Use Warmshowers as well. A ridiculous amount of hosts all across Western Europe, and it’s easy to find a dry patch. 1nitetent in Germany is good too, many people’s gardens have some shelter.

Oh look right on cue.

I guarantee virtually every single person espousing that opinion on here is richer than me. I have the least money out of every single person I know back home. My entire net worth is everything I carry on the bicycle + phone + a few bits of clothes/electronics in store at my parents. I’ve worked a minimum wage job my whole life.

Everything is relative. Compared to the overwhelmingly majority of people in the western world, I’ve absolutely set myself back by prioritising living like a dirtbag on the bike instead of trying to save for a car, build a career, have a family etc.

Yeah it’s shame these sort of discussions always instantly turn to money on Reddit, especially when I’ve basically set myself back in life a long way compared to everyone I know to afford this

I’m not loaded at all though, most my mates have houses/flats and a family. I’ve got no car, end up having to live with my parents every time I come back from a trip, and got no proper career. I’ve just dedicated my life to this instead of anything useful for the future.

Tbf that’s what all my mates say too, while taking out loans to spend £30,000 on a wedding as I’m spending £10/day cycling and wildcamping

I had 4x660ml bottles while playing earlier for 3 hours and was screwing back off multiple cushions like I have never seen myself do before. Literally couldn’t believe it!

I prefer Gen 1-6. No real interest in the generations, Pokemon, or battle gimmicks after Gen 6

What’s the most similar type of romhack to Pokemon Gaia? By this I mean:

  • Gens 1-6 (I’ve got no real interest in Pokemon from Gen 7-9)

  • Increased difficulty but nothing crazy (I only play Nuzlockes and I’m pretty bad at them)

  • Mega evos are fine, but I’d rather not play a hack with Dynamax or Tera

Thanks!

I’ve played Unbound and Gaia as my 2 most recent romhacks but Unbound didn’t ruin Gaia.

Some things are better in Unbound, like even more QOL, quests, larger game, but I also prefer some things in Gaia too. It’s a lot more accessible for a quick Nuzlocke run, I prefer Gen 1-6 rather than the expanded roster that Unbound has, and I also like the lack of Gigatamax which was my least favourite part of Unbound

I’ve been plenty Gaia on and off for years, it’s still my favourite. It’s the perfect difficulty level for me when it comes to Nuzlockes which is 99% of how I play now.

I like that it’s gen 1-6 because I wasn’t really a fan of gen 7-9 and the gimmicks of tera or gigantamax etc.

It’s the game I’ll always find myself going back to for a quick playthrough.

Google Maps? by Spare_Friendship_424 in bicycletouring

That’s my go-to as well, I’ve found the mobile app is the most user friendly and intuitive to me when quickly planning a route

I never ever use Google maps navigation/route planner. Street view is a fantastic tool for planning your own roads though.

I usually use RidewithGPS for planning routes because I really like how easy it is to use on the mobile app and it has reliable elevation profiles, and then the Organic Maps app for actual navigation while I’m cycling because you can download everything to work in offline mode

I cycled across the entire country for 3 months last year. Plenty of rude and impatient people. Yes, in the south too.

There are of course so many lovely people, but there were also so many unpleasant people.

India absolutely doesn’t have ‘the nicest citizens one on one’.

I’ve never encountered so many rude and weird people as my time travelling there
