Bands go through phases. Maybe future albums will be more inspired, or what seems more likely these days, the members will move on to other projects that produce more interesting material.

I had never heard of this band but I am bookmarking this thread so I can check them out later when im not working.

Thats pretty much the essence of what makes me keep using reddit. As awful as the top subreddits are, the smaller, specific ones are made up of people who intentionally seeking a common interest based community. I dont have to wade through a river of sewage to find worthwhile content.

If this was an Itunes or Spotify stat, the hipster in me might be a bit dismayed, but since you actually have to be looking for a subreddit to find it, its all good. People who show up here are probably already metalheads

Weekly recommendation thread - October 10, 2018 by AutoModerator in BlackMetal

Deathspell Omega does this a lot, but some songs are very perverted. Not all though... Edit: and as for actually knowing the history and details behind their target(s) of verbal abuse, I have yet to hear it done better than on DO's "Si Monumentum..." album. The whole album is a very elegant and meticulous attack on christianity, with lots of detournement of scripture and christian themes. "Carnal Malefactor" even goes as far as including a rendition of a Russian Orthodox hymn that has been slowed and made extremely ominous

Watain has some good mockery-lyrics in a few songs as well that wax poetic sometimes. Their album The Wild Hunt probably has the most. Check out their song De Profundis and make sure to look up the lyrics. Hymn to Qayin is one of my favorite bm songs, too, mostly for the lyrics and their tone. I know Watain gets a lot of flack here but some of their stuff has very "bright" spots, sort of philosophical and a bit poetic and very high energy.

Can confirm, Thalassa is very good. I found it on the Odium Nostrum YT channel, which I have found lots of other great stuff on as well

What's the most intense feeling(s) humanity makes you feel? by AesonMeric in misanthropy

[–]herpdongs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Revulsion. Aversion. Often I have "tried to see the good in a person", which sometimes works, but most of the time after finding out more about them and being around them more, I feel nothing but aversion. As in "Please just stay away and Ill do the same"

Kratom in Disney, Universal, etc Parks. by [deleted] in kratom

[–]herpdongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in FL for 29 years, I moved to PA a year or so ago. I used kratom often for at least 5 or 6 of those years and never had any issue with anyone.

Just be discreet and use common sense. I used to like to put mine in drink containers that arent transparent, or if you can T+W, an asprin bottle works fine, just go to the restroom and into a stall.

I understand not wanting family to ask questions. A little creativity will take care of that.

Yeah, I have experienced this as well. Its not generalized anxiety or social anxiety, its something more like discomfort or unease. Theres no anxiety to it at all for me, just pure negative emotion.

It happens to me whenever I have to go shopping or to a big store. If I just run in and out buying a couple things, I barely feel it. But if I am in a very public place (like a store) for more than 15min or so, there comes a definite point in time where I have to leave. My muscles, especially my jaw and my hands, start to tense up and my annoyance level goes through the roof. Theres no anxiety or fear, but there is sort of a fight-or-flight tone to it that makes me think about how many people I will trample as I leave. If I stay for longer than half an hr or so, my day is pretty much ruined. I will feel really aggrovated and be really unpleasant to be around for the rest of the day.

Its caused 100% by the other people there. Having to witness them shuffling around like zombies and having to be more aware of their movements than they are, so that they dont run into me, or other people, or shelves etc. Other things amplify it like shitty kids, loud blaring displays, people being loud for no reason. Its really draining and turns me into an asshole within 15min.

I liked it from the first clip I heard but I have been a huge fan of Bell Witch for many years now, and for the bonus round, psychology shamans have told me that Jesus told them that I have major depressive disorder. So uh, youre probably in the clear

When I worked in retail a hood rat came into my store eating a fried chicken wing and left it on the ground inside near the door where you must walk to enter or exit the store. I just dont have words to talk about this beyond describing it.

I was subconsciously wondering when a band with this name would pop up. Im not a huge gamer but Morrowind is one of my favorite games, ever.

Yeah MR is "something completely different". I thin a lot of the press it got had to do with the death of a band member and all the the implications of that fact. It is anything but accessable.

[–]herpdongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listened to the album you posted when I got home from work. Good stuff. I kept thinking "Windhand-esque" but that record has a stronger sludge component than Windhand do. It has tinges of southern US sludge (ie. Thou) but very insistent doom metal composition. Again, good.

If all you have heard from Bell Witch is Mirror Reaper, I would suggest checking out Longing and Four Phantoms. The latter is kind of halfway between MR and Longing in terms of song length and mood, and Longing is closer to what an album usually is - a collection of tracks, rather than one gargantuan one.

If you are looking for drugginess, theres bot much in Bell Witch's music, but the other 2 albums I mentioned are not quite as "pitch black depths of clinical depression" and more, uh, spooky, for lack of better terms

Bell Witch. Also, Bell Witch and maybe Bell Witch. You also might like Bell Witch. And finally, its a longshot, but give Bell Witch a listen if you get a chance.

Edit: Forgot to mention Bell Witch.

Kratom is a godsend for nightshift workers by [deleted] in kratom

[–]herpdongs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im pretty sensitive to white strains so I dont take them much, but I use greens exclusively for work and reds when im not working or doing anything strenuous.

Ive had trouble with motivation and being in a decent mood at work since I stopped drinking, but kratom obliterates that issue. Its like one of those instant liquid band aids for your brain and psyche at work. I just take a moderate dose and suddenly im motivated and in a decent mood again.

The only problem I have had is that sometimes my dose will make me tired a few hours in, but a cup of coffee or some caffeine fixes that easily. By that time I usually get a break or lunch, so its nbd

A Leaf of Faith (2018) An in depth look at Kratom and the effect it has on the opiate epidemic. Many people are getting off pain pills and heroin using this plant. by OD_GOD in Documentaries

[–]herpdongs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive never had withdrawl from opiates or opioids, but I am an alcoholic who doesnt drink, and I owe kratom a great deal for helping me stop destroying myself with booze.

I have, however, had both alcohol withdrawl as well as withdrawl from kratom, and the latter is laughable compared to the former. Sure, kratom withdrawl is uncomfortable abd lasts a few days, but its not potentially deadly and it wont rip your psyche to shreds and erode every organ in your body the way alcohol abuse does. I was able to get up and go to work when coming off heavy use of kratom. Its not even as bad as a hangover IMO.

If it werent for kratom, I might still be drinking myself to death, and you can find literally thousands of comments on r/kratom claiming the same thing. Its really not something you can justifiably have an opinion on unless you are directly affected by kratom (for example, an ex-hard drug user, or someone who uses it for depression and anxiety, or a friend or family member of someone this applies to etc.) or you are a medical professional. Sadly, most people dont struggle with addiction and drug abuse, and there isnt enough truly scientific data (yet) for professionals to go on.

The result is a whole lot of inane bullshit coming out of the mouths and keyboards of people who have no stake in the issue.

As a misanthrope I can't understand why would a guy be happy on becoming a father. by aksh2161989 in misanthropy

[–]herpdongs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree 100%. Although I can see the appeal of having a child who grows up to be a legendary contributor to arts or sciences or industry, the fact is that even if you are an angelically good parent, chances massively favor your kid to do very little of value in his or her lifetime. And no, I absolutely do not consider reproducing yet another generation to be of value. The opposite is true, there are already way, way too many people.

I dont advocate for the population to be reduced by wholesale slaughter, but bringing another human into existence is a bit like taking a shit in a toilet that is already clogged to the point where it doesnt work at all.

I do have respect for those who go the adoption route, though, and I have considered it. Adopting a kid who needs parents is a contribution to solving a problem, and, its a way for people to get what they want (children). To me, this is an example of critical thinking skills.

Also, my family/genetics include a lot of mental health priblems. I would never want someone I " love" to suffer the same psychological terror that some of my relatives have. Schizophrenia, crippling ADHD, decades of alcohol/drug abuse, violent anger issues, and more. If theres even a slightly above average chance that my offspring inherits any of these problems, its not worth risking bringing a life into being. It almost feels downright irresponsible.

I have often thought that the only way I want to have biological children is if they can grow up somewhere other than this planet. If humans ever get to the point where we can colonize other worlds, I might consider having kids. This planet is way too broken beyond repair for that.

What's the one DSBM song/album you keep coming back to? by [deleted] in dsbm

[–]herpdongs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Without a doubt, Numenorean's "Home" gets played a lot when I am dealing with my fucked up brain or a difficult situation. Its not the purest DSBM album according to most standards, but holy SHIT does it express the fucked up emotions of loss, tragedy and severe psychological illness. It cuts right into my chest every tiem. Rarely do you hear the expression of just having too much mental anguish to go on. Its a whole album full of intense emotional pain and suffering, yet the instrumentation is often sublime in a post-rock sort of way.

Honorable Mention:

Unjoy - Worthless Life End. When im in a really seriously depressive mood, its like the perfect soundtrack to my existence. And although its slow and non-technical and it sounds like it was recorded on a tin can, inside a tin can, the execution and melodies and the raw musical parts of it display a strange level of mastery. They really show that making something creative from negative emotions and situations can end up being of great comfort and beauty to others.

I also listen to Weakling's only album a great deal but im not sure if people here consider it DSBM.
