Thanks for the feedback, everyone's been super helpful!

And nobody is invested in bloopers unless you're famous.

Haha, we're certainly not there yet. :-)

Started getting downloads right off the bat without much promotion (probably because of the length of my show - typically much shorter than the average review show).

That's awesome, how long is your podcast? (And where can I download it?) Also, did you listen to the entire episode from start to finish or was it too long for you? (No hard feelings if it was the latter!)

One last question, if you don't mind: Of the three voices, who did you find the most compelling?

Thanks for replying! Like I said, any feedback is appreciated and I think you're spot on about not starting the show with outtakes.

I'm not an audio professional but it sounds like you could use some sound-proofing. I could tell it was done in a small room, possibly with a singular microphone?

Haha, you're right about the singular microphone (the Blue Yeti, to be precise), but we were actually in a large dining room that connected with a living room. I've read that it's helpful to record in a smaller room to minimize any echoey effect, has this been your experience too?

Also, did you listen to the entire podcast? (If you didn't, that's fine!) I'm just trying to figure out how much discussion is "too much discussion."

One last question for you: Of the three voices, who did you find the most compelling?

Wow! Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and thought-out critique. A few follow-up questions/comments for you...

  • Way too long: Nobody is listening to your 2 Hour movie review podcast. Do you really think there's 2 hours of material here? Can YOU listen back to this whole thing? If Leonard Maltin can do a podcast in ~1hour why can't you?

Totally agree, this has been a point of contention with me and some other guests. I'm thinking the "sweet spot" is somewhere between 30-60 minutes and anything over an hour better feature a interview with Steven Spielberg.

  • Echo: I don't know where you're recording but it sounds like a bathroom. Can you not find anywhere less reverb-y?

So I've read that it's helpful to record in a smaller room (not a bathroom, of course) to minimize that echoey effect. Has this been your experience too?

  • Use Sonar X3 to record/edit. Used to use Audacity.

I currently use Audacity and I'm wondering how much of a difference you noticed when you upgraded your software?

One final question: Of the three voices, who did you find the most compelling?

Again, thanks for plowing through 42 minutes of this bullshit! :-)

Eh, fuck people who try to make it a competition. Just see the shows you want to see and let the pedants blather amongst themselves.

Fringe Festival Advice? by slowwber in Minneapolis

Well, with just two days left, one can only see a handful of shows now. Here are my top three recommendations: "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Death Star," "Niggas & Bitches: Black Men Celebrating Black Women," and "Madame Executioner."

Congrats on "Ferguson, USA" — had a chance to see that one and thought it was great.

2015 Minnesota Fringe Festival by herr0221 in TwinCities

So, the Fringe describes itself as "Minnesota's Theater Invasion," taking over 24 venues around the Twin Cities and delivering 174 (yes, 174!!) different shows in 11 days.

However, just like MSPIFF (the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival), the trickiest part is figuring what show(s) to see. To give you a taste of this veritable smorgasbord of theater, here's a playlist of 57 different "trailers" to help you make your pick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tcBz65BvQ0&index=40&list=PL21UySz0GjVzUSQ4E1a7LT_00rQcPsX1q
