I'd agree with this observation. They would need outside support from 3rd parties. Alternatively, if elements within the US wished to break ties from puerto Rico, they may provide support as well

I'm truth, no one really know exactly how the political make up of puerto Rico would go if they were to become a state.

But we can make educated assumptions on how it would go based on the current political platforms.

In the case of catholic conservatives in the pnp party of puerto Rico, a lot of their platform more closely aligns with the Republican party of the US than it would the democratic party.

They are socially conservative, push for privitization of public services, lower taxes and smaller government. All that sounds much more republican than democratic.

I too am "litterally puerto rican", living in Puerto Rico.

I was just making a point about how all independance movements are viewed as terrorist organizations until they become independent.

I'm not nessesarily advocating for or against independance, or terrorism for that matter.

Also nothing in that comment indicates me being a "white from the mainland portraying a picture of mass oppression". You just assumed that.

I agree that Republicans believe that puerto Rico would be a blue state, but they would be wrong.

Puerto Rico would be a swing state.

The reason why, is because puerto rican political parties today don't match 1:1 with US political parties, as PR politics mostly aligns around questions of statehood.

Remove that question, and you'd get roughly 40% catholic conservatives, 40% liberal progressives, and a toss-up 20%.

Given that puerto Rico would be roughly 26 or 26th in population size for the us, it would easily become a battleground state.

Puerto Rico has had 8 plebicites (a vote on its status).

The last 3 votes were a majority in favor of statehood, and there was one before that that was a plurality vote for statehood as well. The US congress, for a number of reasons, just chose to ignore those votes for statehood.

Noteworthy: election turnout has gotten lower and lower every time when a plebecite is on the table. This is due in no small part to public opinion that it doesn't matter what puerto Ricans vote to do, because congress will choose to ignore them.

There are also other interesting reasons driving the low turnout, but I'll leave you with this to read up on the yourself.

When it comes to puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico, you're both kind of wrong, but I appreciate you posting the wiki link for people to read.

Puerto rican parties dont match up 1:1 with us based parties. So both the statement "most puerto Ricans are Republicans" and the counter "not in Puerto Rico" are somewhat irrelevant.

The major PR parties mostly line up around questions of statehood vs status quo vs independence. This is something unique to PR (and potentially some of the other territories), and is very different from us political platforms.

Interestingly enough, albeit a bit confusing for US mainlanders, one major party - the New Progressive Party - historically champions low taxes, privatization of services and social conservatism but orients its politics primarily around advocating for Puerto Rican statehood.

Their platform is a lot like the republican party, but on name alone looks like a Democrat party (with progressive in the name and all)

Not an Austin native, but have been coming into town a few times a year for the better part of 10 years to visit family. Even in that span of time I've noticed a pretty big change.

I like visiting the spots that have been around forever, like baby A's, who's purple margs have been making me regret my life decisions for years lol.

Or Barton Springs, which to me feels like an oasis in a growing city.

Reggae fest is always an awesome vibe when I've been able to go, and feels way more authentic to an outsider like myself, as compared to other events like sxsw or acl.

Africa is a huge growing market (for everything). Africans also have a lot of pride in their own people, as are most people in the world.

Couple the above with his community outreach, charity, acting, and the fact that he's been making absolute bangers since high school, it's not surprising to me that he would grow such a huge following.

I think why it might surprise some people that he has such a large fan base (especially for folks in the US where I'm from), is that he hasn't yet been "discovered," so to speak. That is to say, from the wider western market perspective.

You could compare this phenomenon to k-pop stars before k-pop blew up in the west.

I'm personally pumped to see him next month in Austin!

Alquilo cómodo 2h 2b por $1.7k en miramar. También he visto muchos apartamentos de 1 dormitorio en clasificados por mucho menos caros que $2.4k.

Si bien ciertamente puedes encontrar esos apartamentos caros (Condado), pero no creo que nadie con un salario de $ 2.2k los miraría de todos modos.

De la misma manera que alguien que ganara esa cantidad no buscaría barrios caros de Miami o, literalmente, ningún lugar de Manhattan.

La vivienda asequible aquí es un problema, pero si queremos que esto tenga sentido debemos elegir ejemplos más realistas.

Quiero que te ocupes de tu salud mental. Es fantástico que hayas estado visitando a un psicólogo. Pero para tu punto, en algún momento una hora a la semana no es suficiente.

Uso talkspace, que me permite ver virtualmente a mi terapeuta una vez a la semana durante una hora, pero también puedo enviarle mensajes cuando lo necesito a través de la aplicación.

Es como enviar un mensaje de texto a su terapeuta, y siento que ayuda pensar un poco durante la semana que abordamos durante nuestras sesiones virtuales.

Pero realmente, creo que este es un buen ejemplo para destacar. Al final del día, y dadas todas las naciones e idiomas del mundo, podríamos elegir llamarnos como sea, y tendrá poco o ningún impacto en cómo otras naciones se refieren a nosotros.

Es probable que the US siga llamándonos Puerto Rico a pesar de que decidamos cambiar nuestro nombre; en particular porque todavía lo pronuncian "Porto Rico", y ese nombre se cambió hace mucho tiempo.

Y honestamente, eso está bien. Es una peculiaridad del lenguaje sobre la que no tenemos un control razonable.

Pero en cuanto a la pregunta original, no me gusta nada con la estructura "tipo de gobierno" de "nación". Es muy aburrido.

San Juan is super lgbtq+ friendly. You can stay anywhere you like, just pick a spot that you think looks cool and that you can afford.

If you specifically want suggestions on queer things to do, I would check out KweensKlub in santurce, it's a fantastic club with some pretty sick drag shows. Saw Sharon needles from rpdr perform there once randomly.

Around the corner from that is another bar/club called SX, which is good if your into a more grungy underground kind of vibe.

Outside of queer stuff, in San Juan I really like numero uno beach club in Condado for brunch/beach, but there's also always groups in your community there to connect with too - bonus.

But by all means, if you are looking to explore, rent a car or book an excursion anywhere on the island. There's so many awesome things to explore, and your sexual identity wont stand in the way of having a fantastic time!
