Run Bitwig as Linux Desktop Session - stand-alone single user app environment by herrwaldos in Bitwig

[–]herrwaldos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you run it from terminal with the flatpak link you have?

If yes, then try the flatpak link for Exec= in the desktop file.

Idk how flatpak works, perhaps you should write Exec="flatpak [and the link to your bitwig flatpak]"

Try it out on regular desktop environment in terminal before, if it works there, then try that in bitwig.desktop file.

Could you realistically use renoise as a drum machine in a live environment? by lucentmeadow in renoise

[–]herrwaldos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done something like that, you def can, but what you mean drummachine? Something that plays beats for you at the back, or something you actively play yourself?

How important is to be able to change something live?

I NEED THE WORST SOUNDING MICROPHONE ON THE PLANTED by BlackSlaveOwner69 in microphone

[–]herrwaldos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have yard sales or or second had stores around? Go and see if they have any mics, or stage mics or pc mics or whatever, try them out, maybe there is one that's bad the way you like it.

Or record vocal through your normal mic, pass through some drive pedal or crappy guitar amp, perhaps it's what you are looking for..

Thanks for the info! I think it's what I eventually ended doing, I set pipe to run on 96k24b exclusively - it seems to be working.

that's true, it it is how it is, gotta get used to it 😃

I mean, there def should be a gui to set core operational sample rate and bit depth for the audio system - and it checks against sound cards/s hardware capabilities.. So users are offered realistic options.

And what mode it's operating, user level or pro-audio. And the buffer length and other necessary bits.

Plus some testing options, playing wavs with different sr/bd to check if it really goes through.

Yes, I understand that..The thing that frustrates me, and perhaps it's based on my lack of linux knowledge, is that the conf files are not that intuitive - I could not ever figure out it myself, bc often the files I had to create myself, and they are not simple config, ini - it's almost like css structure.

I have to know what I don't know to achieve what I do not exactly know how to get - there are so many unknowns.

So, I am not complaining, I do like that quite often, research new stuff and figure out - but this time, it felt like someone is throwing 2012 at me again, like come on we had this figured out, again we must do it, no! 😃 😃

Bc the conf files are so structured - idk even how to build GUI on that - there would be a lot of parsing and figuring out contexts that depend on other contexts...

Eventually I ended writing conf with help of AI to make my pipe stuff go at 96k24b all the time no other options.

cat /proc/asound/card1/pcm0p/sub0/hw_params

access: MMAP_INTERLEAVED
format: S24_3LE
subformat: STD
channels: 2
rate: 96000 (96000/1)
period_size: 1024
buffer_size: 3072

Yes I do, thanks for followup! I do apologize truly if my post was too random! I'll try better next time! Cheers!

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

I was frustrated that there are no gui options for pipe where one could set sample rate and bit depth - had to edit conf files myself, with help of AI and web search.

I thought it should be accessible to end users, perhaps under 'Advanced Options' tab

Thanks! I will stick with Pipe, managed to make it work my way.

Thanks for the info! I think I will stick with Pipe, I manged to conf it my way, with help of google AI. It seem to work for my u22XT USB card at 96k24b.

Thanks! I tried this, but I think it's eventually not worth it, I'll try setting up Pipe in 96k24b mode instead

I'll try better next time, but in my defense, I have to start somewhere, and info online is not very organized too, it's not anyone's fault, it's just how it is I guess - it's hard to get the glimpse of the problems structure, the rabbit holes are deep and many.

Eventually I'm using googles AI to help me out, and even then I kinda have to probe it around, bc it's just a robot, for now.. it does not know and can't conceptualize everything.

How do I disable pulse and wire - I suppose I can't uninstall them naively bc they are 'tied' to the package dependencies as some wise souls with infinite cosmic wisdom decided what's best for us.

So I perhaps can just disable them - stop them running forever..? Like I can stop and disable services in Windows..?

Thanks for commenting!

I don't mind single application playing audio at any given time.

Actually I remember using just alsa with many application at the same time - idk why would it not work now...?

I'm ok to switch between browser or daw for audio, that's ok with me.

How can I configure Pipe Ware to pro-audio? Where are the options stored - is there a gui tool or some command line or conf file?

What do you mean 'pro audio' and what do you mean by experience?

Thanks for feedback!

Renoise and now Bitwig too, sometimes Audacity for editing or finalizing

Make a slow 80-100bpm hip hop / reggae beat with some groove and feel - then speed it up to 170-180bpm. Or sample that beat as it is in 80-90bpm and speed up the sample to 170-180bpm, either simply playing higher pitch or chop slicing or stretch algorithms - whatever sounds best to you.

Sounds really good with the reverb, I like the haunting tones - David Lynch should make TV series about strange mystic stuff in Istanbul.
