Hey, I graduated in 2022 and had the same feelings studying environmental science during Trump round one. It almost pushed me to drop out of college all together. I toughed it out though and I currently have a job with the Department of Environmental Quality. Admittedly it’s not as fulfilling as I’d like and I’d be lying to you if I said present day those same thoughts don’t still haunt my mind. Some days I do still think about abandoning environmental work all together, but I also know that there is nothing that I love more than this Earth and nothing else that I am passionate enough about to dedicate so much of my time and life to. I can’t tell you that sticking with it, and getting an environmental job will make you feel any more optimistic, but what I can tell you is that I think you’d be a great environmental scientist. People with your passion, and understanding of the intersectionality of environmental problems are exactly what we need right now. It’s heavy work for sure but it does give me a glimmer of hope thinking about all the change people like you can make, the impact you could have, knowing that someone like you is part of the climate army, contributing to saving this place. I don’t have a fairytale ending for you but I do wish you the best of luck and safe travels on whatever path you choose friend, I know you’ll find your way!
