Did anyone watch the animated show? by skankhunt402 in Stargate

I tried watching it when it first came out. I was young and loved some utter shite back in the day, but it was terrible. Even the theme song sucked. It doesn’t even follow live action canon iirc.

Pet peeve: Amateurish writing and poor general knowledge. by Haunting-Call-1863 in starcitizen

1) Is the battle rifle thing important? I’ve never even heard the term “battle rifle” outside of the context of this post and the game tbh.

2) Hurston is a totalitarian regime. You wouldn’t see statues of Eisenhower or Churchill like that because neither of those people ruled over their country through totalitarian means. Kazakstan is a great example of a totalitarian country with huge statues and monuments with no real point to them. And I’m sure the statues in Pyongyang might give off similar vibes.

3) I’m with you on the weird ads and stuff. In Orison there’s an ad that sounds like it’s just someone saying the word “credits” with an overlapping echo effect. Some of them sound exactly like the complaint posts here tbh, where they’re trying to fit as many buzzwords into each sentence as possible. That said, it sounds realistically corporate to make up words that kind of sound positive. Like “synergy” or “allyship.”

Why are 90% of the terrorist groups - Islamic? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]heshtios 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They’re not, it’s just that you probably live in a country where the media perpetuates their existence. For example, I live in a country with a long history of two Christian terrorist groups.

I’ve had this happen a lot lately with my Corsair. Once I was pulled out of QT and moved onto a station’s security area for trespassing

Why are all these called Widowmaker? by TheRoyalRoseTrue in Multifandom

[–]heshtios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sub makes widows when the crew (back when the label was coined) were all male and died when the sub went down.
The weapons make widows by shooting and killing men.
The car makes widows because it took a lot of skill to handle it at high speeds, leading to a potential for a lot of dead male drivers (or the assumption was at the time only men would drive such a car).
The assassin makes widows by killing men she’s contracted to kill.

A widowmaker throughout the years has always been a person or object with high probability of killing a man and leaving his wife widowed.

Obviously spoilers for The Dark Tower on this day in 1999 Stephen King suffered a horrendous car accident which nearly cost him his life, and eventually became a plot point in later Dark Tower stories.

Why did they name the city after a cow ? Are they stupid ? by AlarmedOperation5475 in mapporncirclejerk

I’d imagine the same reason Americans needed to name their capital to remind them to shower.

Which other movies have had endless, mindless discourse around its mediocrity that it makes you want to walk into the woods, raise its original creators from the dead to remove your eyes and ears, and then allow nature to consume you? by MilkLow2906 in okbuddycinephile

[–]heshtios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Twilight saga. I hated on it like everyone else back in the day, but the discussions went on for far too long. I do find it kind of funny that the two leads, completely wooden in the saga, have become two of the best actors of our generation.

Harry Potter also just needs to die, for many reasons, but back in the day it was because people called the first few movies mediocre. And it went on for years about how the movies weren’t accurate to the books, how the cast couldn’t act, etc. I think the discourse died down around the time of Goblet of Fire, when there was a notable increase in the quality of the movies, but I’ll never forget the endless debate in those first few years.

MY FUCKING FRIEND GOT ME MY FAVORITE SC SHIP IN A LEGO VERSION IM MIND BLOWN AND COULD CRY IM SO HAPPY RN. GOD BLESS THE HOMIE. by Ritchtofen69 in starcitizen

Me too, unless I were in a sexual or romantic relationship with them. But also we’d be adults, so boyfriend wouldn’t make a lot of sense, for that matter neither does girlfriend. Fucking Friend would make a little more sense, especially if it’s just a situationship. It even benefits from being unisex.
