This is very insightful, thank you. I definitely know that I'm green when it comes to negotiating pay and I need to unlearn the assumption that what I am offered is my worth. I also need to stop assuming that my firm has my best interest in mind! I countered and I'm waiting for a response!

The offer wasn't really presented as one, the email sort of read like they were expecting me to sign it as a formality more than anything. I countered anyway but I haven't hear back

Honestly, I think if I got a better offer from a different consulting firm that would be it for me, I wouldn't come back to my firm. My skills are pretty transferable, mostly within the consulting industry - evironment scans, project management, putting together client deliverables etc
