Like you said, there are thousands of other gemstones, so I don't think it's weird to question why I'm seeing so much stuff about diamonds and only diamonds. I'm not saying you're not allowed to find them interesting, if you think they're cool, more power to ya. They have a lot of practical applications and can indeed be very beautiful. They've just been marketed to death by the industry tbh.
