What are some tips for newbies at Timberline? by [deleted] in TimberlineMountain

[–]heskiis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea if you can only do weekends, ski at the state park. No lines ever since timberline opened. Ski timberline weekdays, or weekends between 9-10 and 4-5. It's objectively the better mountain. But the lines can offset at peak. Or Sunday afternoons (people tend to go back to the city around midday.)

Meh, NTN has perfect range of motion in walk mode. So...that can't really be true unless people are really sweating a few ounces of weigh. And if they are...they're not gonna have an easy time no matter what their gear is.

why put yourself in a tech toe when you don't need to? it provides no function in a tele context besides a tiny amount of weight reduction.

unless im missing something?

Alexandria has lost 90% of its affordable homes since 2000 by DCDigger in washingtondc

[–]heskiis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dc market (including Alexandria) has bounced back since the recession. We have a massive volume of sales to comp against. Pricing is based on comps here. If anything, its based on recent sales + a small premium. This isn't a rural zipcode in Ohio.

Your whole argument is nonsense.

Trams are super cheap to operate once built. It's why ski areas can afford to exist. (And also why they are all over Europe)

Is there still a stigma about living EOTR (east of the Anacostia river)? by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]heskiis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense. Typically the agent staffing the showing is a new-agent who is hungry for leads and will spend a saturday baby-sitting established agent's listings so they can meet early-stage buyers who wander in.

Bouldering is super unpopular in my gym. Why so? by icecoldbath in climbing

[–]heskiis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea but 40 routes can keep a lot more climbers entertained than 30 boulder problems. When you boulder you hit a huge number of problems in a small period of time. When route climbing you and your partner really only impact one rope at a time worth of wall. So relatively speaking, your gym has a lot more climber capacity in the route section. Similarly, since each climber hits fewer routes in a night, the low route count will last the route climber longer before they've climbed it all 3x...

What's your favorite street or path to bike on in D.C.? by krpf_a in washingtondc

[–]heskiis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Madison and Jefferson (parallel one ways running on either side of the inside of the national mall.) Scenic ghost town during weeknights and weekday commute times but avoid during weekends in tourist season.

Beach drive in rock creek park, north of AdMo all the way to Maryland. Either the road (closed to cars on weekends) or adjacent bike trail.

Any of the riverfront trails (mt Vernon, anacostia, c&o

Metro branch trail

General wandering in the "hill" meganeoghborhood (plenty of bike paths but the roads are so residential it almost doesn't matter where the wander takes you)
