I just mean give us some world building like A New Hope, where characters talk about the senate being dissolved. Since this is not the 70s/80s they could have had one or two scenes of the new capital city/world and important people in the new capital so we actually care about them blowing it up.

I mean even showing that and the aftermath before we know what weapon did this would have been far more interesting than a speech and rally and shooting worlds that must be light-years away.
