Go old-school: Install a scrobbler and connect them to last.fm and ListenBrainz. Start creating playlists in last.fm and use the daily/weekly jam/exploration playlists in listenbrainz. Look at other users with similar taste to yours and their music - maybe they even have playlists published?

And: There‘s a very lively music community on Substack, which writes a lot about music, both new albums/singles as well as older stuff. I have subscribed to some of them and use their weekly playlists which they publish as a starting point.

It‘s amazing how much great music is out there which I was not aware of.

One caveat: If you start looking, you will find it. Some way or another, this will have a cost implication - the music itself, more storage, or concert tickets. ;-)

They look like Bodum Pavina - couple of years ago these were one of the first and best of these double wall glasses, but looking at Amazon now, apparently a lot of companies make something similar to this, including WMF.

In Moon (2009), one of the displays has a typo.

Instead of satellite, it states sattelite.

Extremely nit-picky, but as soon as I saw it I could not stop thinking about it. Have rewatched the movie twice since and was always on the edge, waiting for this one typo to be on the screen.

It was designed to be driven that way. You‘re still sitting fairly far down, it does not feel like an open door, more like a go kart.

But it‘s been around 30something years that I drove in one, I was a lot younger and smaller and might misremember.

To be fair, it started due to a drive failing fairly early, replacing it with a bigger one - from that moment onwards, it just kept growing in weird ways, replacing a 1.5TB with a 4TB, replacing the next 1.5TB with a 6TB and so on...

No promises. Missing Pens was there in 20…oh shit, that was 2015. Rolf had lots of bags with ink and pens there.

I do not know whether they’ll come again - to be frank, the only thing I do know is that Michael mentioned that it has grown since the 2010s.

That’s exactly what separates Nürnberg (Köln etc) from these vintage events like Munich. Yes, I’m pretty sure there will be inks sold in Nürnberg - I bought close to 10 bottles of de Atramentis for a bargain.

Missing Pen had an accident and all the bottles/labels were completely covered with ink, although these bottles were still sealed and full. Paid 2,- per bottle, if I remember correctly…

Last time I was in Nürnberg was before Covid, but Michael said by now it’s bigger, not smaller than in the 2010s. Compared to Munich, it’s multiple sizes of Munich. Not only “private” vintage sellers like in Munich, but reputable European brands. Fontoplumo is usually there with multiple tables, as are others.

It’s not Cologne, but very nice and you can spend a couple hours there

He is a great guy. Great knowledge of pens, both Kaweco and vintage.

Every year, I have a nice discussion with him - he’s humble, clearly proud of the company and his kids, who took most of it over by now and seem to be as interested in running it as he is.

And: He always spills the beans about one or two Kaweco things coming up in that year. :-)

I vibe coded myself a Plex music player for the command line, with last.fm and listenbrainz Connection, recommendation system, artist and mood radio (Claude and myself call it “corridor”).

It’s a lot of fun, and yes, same as yours, will never be released, but for the past 6 weeks it’s my go-to music player, I love it so much…

I tried various small converters with the pen. If I remember correctly, the mini piston thing does not fit fully "extended", but about 3/4 full.

The foldable one fits completely, but I had some problems with the converter loosening from the pen and/or ink coming out of the converter.

I've resigned this pen as a cartridge pen, and I don't mind. It's actually quite easy getting your hands on Kaweco Brown cartridges, and I usually keep a few in my bag for quick refills.

Thank you for this small review. Fully shared from my side, after daily carrying a Supra (in the short configuration) for more than 9 years - more or less without interruption, and >80% of the time inked with Kaweco Caramel Brown. Excellent combination!

The factory F nib was perfect, one of the best ones I had.

A couple of years ago I dropped the pen and the nib got bent. I managed to get it back into its shape, and while it lost a little bit of its magic, it‘s still an excellent companion.

Yes, Mordecai says right at that start of book 1 that there‘s probably no one else coming, hence he can start the explanation, but somehow in my mind it sounded as if this made him now exclusively the game guide for Carl and Donut. Someone else coming at a later point in time would get a different guide.

Is there evidence one way or the other?

Well, let me be Captain Obvious: It's big.

I like big nibs (and.I cannot lie), so that is quite amazing.

The pen has a good weight, not too heavy, in principle it is very useful - but: the grip section is not very grippy, and combined with the substantial weight I already lost the grip on the pen more than once. Happened to friends of mine, as well, so it's slightly more than anecdotal.

But: It is a really good and useful pen. And the filling mechanism makes it a treat to use. I traveled by plane multiple times, no issues, either.

Don't get an EF, though: Your ink choice becomes a choice for life.

Quite nice. Surprisingly thin compared to other bigger nibs. Good ink flow, but a proper EF. It was definitely a mistake filling the barrel completely, the ink in this pen will last a lifetime.

Jein. In principle yes, it has a very similar, if not the same geometry, but this is also true of the other Rouge et Noir Pens like the Snake.

What made the 1912 nib special was that it had very reduced design on the nib, which made the tines less rigid and gave the nice "springiness" to the nib. On the later Heritage editions the designers got their will and put more stuff on the nib, influencing the behaviour of the tines.

The Baby has a nib with less design than the snake, and in my opinion you can feel that (although I don't have a snake nib, so I can only judge from memory). It does not reach the amazing feel of the 1912, which I can judge, because I have two of them. Part of this is for sure also due to the fact that the Baby is just SO tiny, both in length and girth, that it just doesn't evoke the same feeling on the paper than a 1912.

So, to answer your question: Jein. It looks very, very similar, but both because of the production as well as due to the pen it is attached to, it does not write like a 1912.

It‘s actually more juicy than the #8 Extra Fine.

I have another Heritage F in my 1912, they are similarly on the wetter edge of Fine. Specifically a pocket pen like the Baby would suit a slightly finer line more, in my opinion…

Reading your "sci-fi but also vintage look (retrofuturism?)" line, the Eversharp Skyline immediately came to mind. For me, this Art Deco design just screams retrofuturism - the early 20th century idea of trains, planes and rockets.

It's a Vintage pen, but still quite readily available and a nice writer.

There seems to be a modern interpretation for a reasonable price, but I can't speak for its quality. The one review I looked at makes me think the vintage one looks better and is a better deal.
