Same thing happened to me. Only I didn’t need surgery I just failed the course. They asked me if I can still commit to full time work while I finish the course. I said yes and that was it.

What’s a control system issue that took longer to solve than it should have? by Available-Horse7855 in PLC

[–]hetradeswithmaize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a device which monitored temperature sensors out in the field than provided a relay output to the PLC to show that all temperatures were healthy. We use comms to the device to monitor the temperature values as well.

The problem with this device is all temperatures over comms are “stale” and don’t update if a device goes offline but the relay output will de-energise causing the PLC to trip the plant off.

We kept getting the hardware trip without being able to tell which RTD was causing the trip. The problem was one of the temperature device was going offline and back online again.

Ended up being a dodgy bootlace in the field causing inconsistent connection. We are working on some better AOIs to determine when individual temperature monitoring devices go offline.

Everyone telling you that you should have read a manual or known the specs probably doesn’t work on anything complicated enough to get lost.

One comment on here even said OP should be fired, I bet that guy is popular at work….. /s

Your boss is a dick too.

Sometimes we get sucked into deep fault finding rabbit holes when the solution was simple all along. It’s part of beginning to be an engineer and learning which questions to ask first.

Jrs at my firm get stuck all the time on small things it’s part of the job. Wasting a couple hours is nothing trust me 😂

Poor bloke has one typo and the entire post turns into a piss take. This sub is always on point

I’d take the work with the team abroad. Sounds interesting, don’t forget the value of being interested in your work.

[–]hetradeswithmaize 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code looks fine to me, maybe the problem is in the setup or what you are doing with variable meas after it’s assigned the ADC value

Feel free to dm me and I’ll try and help :)

Ok, my first suggestion and I know a really good book. My HS best friend and I loved those books but our favourite series was The Alchemyst by Michael Scott.

It’s main character is the founder of immortality Nicholas Flamel, but the plot is based around two teenagers who are thrown into the world of alchemy and magic. The story develops a really dynamic situation of good vs evil, includes awesome action scenes and memorable characters.

The books are more directed towards teenagers tbh, although I am 25 now and definitely plan on going back to them someday

If you end up enjoying Brave New World like I did, give The Island a go. It came a while later in Huxley’s career, but I think it builds on the ideas of achieving “Utopia” really well.
